Step back in time and experience an authentic piece of German family history in the heart of the beautiful Spessart region. Built in the 1950s by a young husband for his new wife, this spacious family home has welcomed generations of family and friends and now opens its doors to travelers looking for comfort, character, and a true local experience.
Located in the peaceful village of Altenbuch, the house combines vintage charm with modern conveniences, making it an ideal base for families, couples, groups of friends, cyclists, hikers, and anyone looking to explore the forests, castles, villages, and rivers of northern Bavaria.
The home comfortably sleeps up to 9 guests across three bedrooms and additional sleeping spaces:
• Bedroom 1: King bed and futon • Bedroom 2: King bed • Bedroom 3: Twin bed with two stacked mattresses and two complete sets of bedding. The second mattress can be placed on the floor to create an additional sleeping space, making this room flexible for families or larger groups. • Living room: Two chaise lounges that can accommodate additional guests.
Guests have access to a fully equipped kitchen with everything needed for preparing meals, a spacious dining area for gathering together, and a comfortable living room for relaxing after a day of exploring the region.
The large bathroom includes: • Bathtub with shower • Bidet • Hair dryer • Fresh towels • Washer • Washer/dryer combination machine
The house retains many of its original features, including beautiful hardwood floors, vintage furnishings, and family photographs that tell the story of the people who built and cared for this home over the decades. Rather than a modern vacation rental designed solely for tourists, this is a genuine German family home with warmth, history, and personality.
Surrounded by nature, Altenbuch offers easy access to some of the region’s most beautiful attractions. Guests can enjoy hiking and cycling through the Spessart forests, exploring historic towns along the Main River, visiting castles and traditional villages, shopping at Wertheim Village, or simply enjoying the peaceful countryside.
The property is especially well suited for: • Family gatherings • Multi-generational travel • Hiking and cycling holidays • Day trips throughout Bavaria and neighboring regions • Guests seeking a quiet retreat away from busy tourist centers
A detailed house manual is provided with local recommendations, operating instructions, and information about the home’s history to help you make the most of your stay.
Please note that this is a historic family home, not a newly renovated luxury property. While we have worked to provide modern comforts, some features reflect the home’s age and character. We believe these details are part of what makes staying here special and memorable.
Whether you’re gathering with loved ones, discovering the beauty of the Spessart, tracing family roots, or simply looking for a peaceful place to slow down and reconnect, we hope you’ll feel at home during your stay in Altenbuch.
