Location is great. Read to end to find mice and snake story. Went to see Elephant Rock, Johnston Shut-ins, Sam A. Baker state park. Lovely time. The check in was knee-jerky because we were not given front door code before check in. No cell service at location so we had to drive out to call the owner. Checked in fine after that. Many things were broken in the house: sofa armrest, blinds, bathroom door would never shut completely. There were plenty of towels and cooking supplies (definitely needed since there is nowhere to eat nearby. we took a cooler of groceries and cooked in) Great view out back and plenty of space for two (I wouldn't want any more than that). Anywho the floors were not clean. Insanely gross under sofas. Plates and cookware all had to be washed before using. We heard a BUNCH of mice in the night and saw three different ones. Makes it really hard to rest peacefully when you hear all the mice running around in the house. I can't help but think of how this could be solved by cleaning the house well. The mice clearly come out to eat travelers crumbs and left out food. We had them chew through several of our bags of food we brought. It would have been nice if the owner had warned us so we could have brought plastic tubs to protect our food. There were sticky paper traps in the closet. Yes this might work but clearly wasn't catching enough. I think the mice figured out the paper and steer clear of it. Oh idea - if you know they are coming in from the hot water closet, maybe spend some energy cleaning that up or sealing that up so they can't get in instead of just putting sticky paper out. Anyways since there was no mouse hotel trap that uses bait to lure in mice, they didnt go on the sticky paper. We did find a TIMBER RATTLE SNAKE trapped on the sticky paper the third morning - which means it was loose in our house before. Talk about a big deal. My wife is pregnant and that could have killed our unborn child if she was bitten. Where there is a mouse problem, there is a snake problem. It is not like the owner didn't know about it since there was some effort to catch the mice. We were not informed about the infestation ahead of the trip. The way the houses are set up, I wouldn't be surprised if each house has a big mouse nest underneath the covered stilts the houses sit on. I messaged the owner about it during our stay twice and he finally messaged me back about a week after our stay. Be careful!
