Check in was easy. The kitchen was extremely well stocked down to a lobster pot to our delight.The setting is beautiful and we very much enjoyed the two level deck. There is a bit of a hike to get to the river. All and all a very peaceful relaxing location. We had 9 adults and 4 children and were very comfortable.

The house was large enough for what we needed (4 couples and 4 grandkids!) for quiet times. And there were many areas we could comfortably meet together as a family. The property is huge and we loved the firepit, pool, dock and kayaks. We will be returning next year!

This is our second stay at Shimmering River Retreat. Property is private with a pool and large dock. Jessica quickly responds to any questions. Well equipped home, with the bonus of additional common and sleeping space in the other building. Definitely would recommend for a large group!

Awesome stay!

This is an incredible property! The host was even better. Super communicative and friendly. The land is absolutely gorgeous. The back deck area was perfect for hanging out with friends. Everything was amazing!I would look out for getting the right address in your gps. A few of our friend’s apps autocorrected them to a town about 15 mins away from the property. If you are lucky enough to book here you will LOVE it!

A fantastic wedding weekend!

Our stay at Shimmering River Retreat was absolutely perfect! My husband and I were able to set up a wedding at the listing that was perfect and unforgettable. The hosts were so accommodating and great to work with to make sure we had the perfect day. The house itself is great! So many rooms to pick from and easy to house family and friends who stayed with us. The side house was also very well furnished and super cozy! The backyard was amazing (especially if you love nature views!) and had great amenities like a pool, a fire pit, and a dock with kayaks to use in the water. The hill for the backyard might be hard for some individuals to walk but you’ll definitely get your steps in if you enjoy that. The front yard also has plenty of space to set up outdoor games or just sit and enjoy nature. Overall, we had a wonderful experience here and I’m so happy with how my wedding turned out! Thank you!!

Our favorite rental!

We have rented many properties for our yearly family vacation but this was by far our favorite! We've already rebooked for next year. The location, the size of the property, the pool, the outdoor areas... everything was amazing! The adults loved the deepwater dock, the kayaks and canoe. The little kids loved the pool. There were many places to go visit locally but we were able to come back to the peace and tranquility of the house. The guest cottage was a big hit for the grandkids!

Excellent family reunion

These two clean and well stocked cabins were much enjoyed by ten adults and four children as our family gathered for a week's reunion. The cabins were clean and marvelously well equipped with large dishwasher and microwave, and ample plate ware and utensils. We enjoyed eating dinners on the large table on the deck. The mattresses were comfortable, and the pool and ping pong table utilized with enthusiasm. We used the kayaks and canoe each day, and even sat on the dock to watch fireworks on the 4th of July! Jessica was responsive and immediately helpful with a need we had. Lots to do in the area: We hiked Bonyun Preserve, walked the beaches at Reid State Park and the Popham Beach, explored historic Fort Popham, searched for the enormous wooden trolls in the Botanical gardens, picnicked in Boothbay Harbor, and played golf at the nearby courses. Everyone had an excellent experience and we all hope to come back!

Mid coast vacay

Overall it was great - pools make all the difference with young kids! The communal space indoors was a little tight for adults, but the porch area was great. Seemed a little stingy to only supply 1TP roll per bathroom for the stay. The instruction book had vanished, and the info about the pool care was a little too much for non-owners of a pool. If there is an anticipated heat wave, bring fans with power. Really great location!

First Maine trip

We had a girls long weekend and wish we could've stayed longer. Beautiful place! There were 9 of us and several were going to stay in the cottage, but it just seem cozy and warm so we all stayed in the house which worked out completely fine. The cottage was very clean and nice, i just think it would be better in the summer, we were there in the fall. We loved being by the water and took the kayaks out, and had a wonderful fire one nite. Loved the walk down to the water, but it is quite a steep and longer walk, so i wouldn't recommend it for anyone that has any walking physical disabilities. Wish we could've used the pool, maybe next time out.

Very nice place and location. Loved the separate cabin where the older kids were able to stay separate from the adults. Only issue was that the pool was not usable as it was dirty and green - late in the season but we still were hoping to be able to take a dip (especially the young kids)

Great vacation getaway!

This property was perfect for our extended family. The grandchildren loved the yard and had many whiffle ball, football and soccer games! The pool was an added perk that everyone enjoyed! We had a great week, that flew by way to fast.

Weekend b-day celebration

The house was very clean, spacious, and beautiful. We played games on the front lawn and used the pool and played some of the family games available at the house. We had and amazing time and would definitely return with a large group.

Wonderful

Everything was just awesome. We rented a house to celebrate our wedding with a small group of people at this location. Everybody admired the beauty of the house and surrounding area. Hosts are the nicest people. They showed us the house in advance so we made sure that it could meet our needs. I would just say that the living room is a little bit smaller than we would prefer. But we fell in love with this wooden house and the atmosphere inside, so we did not want to look further. Highly recommend this place.

Perfect Maine Getaway

This is a beautiful property with plenty to do right on the property itself. There were 12 of us and our time together was absolutely amazing. Communications lines were always open if we had a question. Thank you for sharing this gorgeous property with us!

Wonderful Location!

The location could not be beat. Private, beautiful river. We loved the kayaks and canoe and the pool was a godsend for our children as the lake proved too cold for us wimps. The house was comfortable and well appointed. The host was very responsive.
