I’ve stayed here when it was still Sonder. I would like the hotel to provide square footage of the rooms on booking sites. Also in the past Sonder would offer early check depending on the time at 20 or 30 dollars. Hotel Houze charges 50 dollars regardless of time. The earliest they allow check in is 330. 50 is a bit high for early check in. Other than that

They use digital keys so once downloaded to your phone you use your cellphone to open your hotel room door. It worked fine for a couple of days until the internet went out for the whole hotel, which meant nobody could get into their rooms. There was a key code on the rooms as a backup plan to get into your hotel room but I was given 4 key codes to use to open my door and none of them worked. Had to have hotel staff go to my room to let me into my room for two days until they got the wifi working again.

The staff was amazing. The rooms were very nice. The view we had of downtown Detroit on Michigan and Washington was awesome. The only thing I did not like was the early check in fee of $50.00. I never had a hotel charge me for that. They should rethink that. Other than that. This location was close to restaurants, bars, and Huntington Arena. Great work.

The staff was very nice, friendly and tried to help us with the issues we had but sadly I feel this was our first and last time staying here. Our room was not swept so there were cupcake sprinkles and glitter from I’m assuming the last patrons left everywhere. So much so that I had to ask the front desk for a broom so that I could sweep the residue and hair out the room. We were not provided with any wash clothes in our room and when we asked for them we were told that they didn’t have any so the front desk brought us those big towels that you lay on the floor when stepping out the shower to use instead. On top of that, the bed looked as if the linens weren’t changed as there were leftover human hairs, black markings and black lint in the sheets. We laid on top of the covers since it was late and it took awhile for the front desk to deliver our wash cloth requests. The walls in the room had visible black scrapes on them and not just on the base of the wall, literally on high places so it was very noticeable and just added to the unclean appearance. The shower had soap scum and hairs from the last patrons left on the shower walls and the cups provided in the kitchen cabinets were not cleaned well. The location downtown was perfect and close to a lot of shopping/eatery. However, the hotel doesn’t offer parking and the lot across the street we paid $30 nightly to park there and it was very tight and chaotic.

Hotel Houze — Downtown Detroit, Michigan Not Recommended When I first arrived, I was assigned to Room 04, which had not been cleaned. I was moved to another room, but the issues didn’t stop there. The hotel looks more like a motel from the inside, with a metallic appearance on the upper floors. The quality of the sheets was very poor. they appeared yellow and brownish, suggesting the laundry machines are either dirty or using harsh chemicals that discolor the linens. Even worse, the blanket I was given had visible blood stains on it, which was completely unacceptable. I was on the top floor and the ceiling was actively leaking the entire stay. I had to use the dirty blankets to cover a pot catching the water. When I went to iron my blouse for my trade show the next morning, there was residue on the iron that transferred directly onto my clothes. Because the internet and phone lines were both down, I had no way to contact the front desk to request a new iron. I was left with no choice but to spend approximately 30 minutes scrubbing the iron clean with a Brillo pad myself before I could finish getting ready. The internet went out Tuesday midday and was down for the rest of my stay. During that time there were also no working phone lines, and the keypad entry system to the rooms was not functioning properly either. That said, the front desk staff were excellent and very professional. And I do appreciate that Expedia provided a 50% reimbursement after I reported thes issues.

This used to be an old apartment building that has been recently renovated with modern vibes . The rooms are full size one bedroom apartments with sizable kitchen. Great for term stays or large families. Parking is reasonable at $30 for the area with in and out privileges - located across the street. Easy walk to Little Caesar’s arena and Comerica Park. The check in is very strict at 4pm . Make sure your phone is charged because only digital keys are given.

Ceiling fan very dirt and dusty. Remote control for TV did not have batteries, had to keep switching back and forth with Roku remote. Sent message if a complaint about next door being very loud and screaming. Sounded like young adults having a hotel party. I never got a response and the noise didn’t stop until 4am. Every single time I went in and out there was people out side soliciting begging for money. No security, if it was I never saw them around.

We really had high hopes of this property. It is in a quirky shaped building with old style features in the outside. Once inside, it was not as inviting as expected. There was a line to check in, it was just after 4 and expected. There were two front desk people, one was sitting down and let every one know that he was off the clock and waiting to leave. The front desk person that checked people in seemed friendly. When it was our turn she told us our room was having the toilet seat switched out. She tried calling to find out if it was, and said I really don’t want to check you in if it isn’t ready but I will it was just the toilet seat. We got our code and went up to the room, we heard loud banging before we even opened the door. So, we waited in the ‘gym’ area on our floor. When the worker left the room, we heard the door slam. (Make sure you hold the door as you are closing it) We went to the room, to find towels around the toilet itself and the seat off to the side. Overall, the room was the perfect set up for us, two bedroom. We went back downstairs, told the front desk person he was clearly not done and it was more than a toilet seat. We asked for a different room. I mentioned we would take a one bedroom if needed. We got the one bedroom. Upon entering we noticed two smoke detectors on the table near the window with the batteries removed. The linens were clean. However, there were dusty fixtures such as the lights in the bedroom.

I thought for my first visit the stay was overall really good. It felt like our own little loft and being from the city that’s all we wanted. Just to continue to feel at home. The space was a great size. The kitchen was great and had everything we needed. For a simple staycation I’d definitely be back. Just wish they were more transparent about the $150 deposit that’s nowhere on the website or Expedia.
