I made a reservation on Expedia after a canceled flight and showed up to two front desk clerks being rude to a lobby full of other folks in the same position at midnight. They were trying to clean rooms to get as many guests in as possible but were being dismissive, interrupting anyone with questions, laughing at customers' plights and mocking our concerns. When I got to the counter, they told me they had one room left, but then couldn't find my Expedia reservation and unapologetically told me to leave and call Expedia about it. I understand that third party apps can overbook hotels but there's absolutely no reason for them to treat weary travelers so poorly. I was very polite and they were extremely rude, and they finally refused to let me buy the last room they had, which forced me to walk to five other hotels looking for a room, finally finding one at 2am.
