This would have absolutely been a five star rating if the final interaction with the host had not been marked by dishonesty and lack of good faith. The Villa is quite beautiful and well appointed, but it is hard to reach on an unpaved, rough gravel road. The electronic gate was not functioning properly for the duration of our stay. Originally, it would simply not open far enough to allow our vehicles in safely without damaging them. On the day before our departure, the host informed us that she had called a technician to look into the problem. Not having heard anything to the contrary, I assumed the problem to be rectified. We had to depart at 4:30 AM to make an early flight out of Catania airport. In pitch darkness, we activated the gate and began to drive through with one of our rental vehicles. Shockingly, the gate opened, and then began to close while the car was passing through. Despite one of us attempting to press the gate and activate it to reopen, it continued to forcibly close on the rental vehicle. We took pictures at the moment of impact, and then again when the sun rose as we stopped at a highway rest area. I contacted the owner immediately and graciously asked her to split the damages with me, which were assessed by the rental car company to be in excess of 275. She not only declined to contribute in any way to the damages caused by her gate, but she subsequently refused to provide insurance information on her property. A very bad ending to a nice stay.
