Can we go back next weekend?
Our second stay at Shorty's Caboose with our grandsons. They love it! There's so much for them to do on a wonderful property. We don't even make it home before they ask if we can go back next weekend? We highly recommend it if you're a train enthusiast or have young ones that are.

Property is very unique and cute, nice place to enjoy a campfire. I just happened to book on very cold and wet weekend but was still able to relax and enjoy it. I would stay here again but probably in warmer months.

Great bookcation for my cousin and I
Few cleanliness concerns with a yellowjacket and dead ants, and the AC had some trouble keeping the place cool. Otherwise the caboose was very cute and the view/patio were great for a book-filled getaway.

Great Views!
We had a great time! We arrived at night and did not get to see the surrounding area. When we woke up in the morning we were mesmerized by the fantastic view of the lake off the rear deck! It is quiet and beautiful!

Just as advertised.
The place was unique and peaceful. The views of the lake were magnificent, plenty of room to explore. I really enjoyed the back patio, perfect place to enjoy coffee in the morning. I would definitely recommend this place as a vacation or weekend get-away from it all. The only drawback would be no nearby access to any type of store or place to purchase food. The owner did tell me, but I guess I did not fully realize.

Caboose
The inside was awesome where great detail was given towards the overall experience, what a treat to be able to spend time in a 100 year old caboose. The outside did need attention as the tables and chairs on the deck where not made ready and needed to be cleaned before we could use them. The grass from the caboose to the fire pit needed mowing. Overall the outside looked not ready for use. Even with this the stay met our expectations with a quiet setting and great water views. We missed what should have been an awesome sunset over the water due to cloud cover the whole weekend. We were able to have a fire the second night and took some awesome pictures of the fire against the lake and cloudy sky. The gas grill worked great and was the right size for 2-4 people. The neighbors were very quiet and respectful of our privacy. We enjoyed sitting on the deck or by the fire listen to the wild life around us without the city sounds intruding in our space. If you are looking for a unique experience give this a try you will be glad you did.

It was both our Anniversary and Valentine’s Day and the host went out of their way to welcome us with a banner for our Anniversary and Chocolate covered strawberries! The Caboose was clean and everything we could ask for for a 2 day getaway. We now have another favorite and option for our 2 and 3 day getaways!

We gad a seamless check in with a great welcome book with all the info. Super clean and stocked place. So fun for the kids. Hammock was the best and all the sports equipment! Had a blast!!

Perfection
This was our second time visiting and we had such a wonderful time. So much thought is put into making the guests feel comfortable and at home. You can tell that a lot of love was put into fixing up the caboose as well as each and every little welcoming touch. There is so much to enjoy. The scenery is spectacular. My 12-year-old son and I had fun paddling around the lake in the boat, lounging in the hammock. We all enjoyed fishing on the dock. We caught a few catfish and my husband was delighted to catch the big one that almost got away. We can't wait to return. Thank you so much!!

Cozy Caboose...
My wife and I enjoyed our stay in the Cottonbelt Caboose set alongside of Lake Limestone. The atmosphere is quiet...except for the activity of a variety of birds which add to the setting. The host includes many touches to make the caboose charming and attentive to things you may have left at home. They have done very well with the interior so that you know you are residing in a piece of history.

The property is amazing! The caboose is beautiful and so unique. The property is well maintained and quiet. We brought our boat and was able to launch it nearby and keep it tied up in the water by the house. Mark was very attentive and quick to answer any questions

A piece of History
If you love trains, and history, these owners have done a fabulous job re-creating all the charm of the period in this caboose. Wonderful touch's true to trains, and an absolutely gorgeous piece of property that it sits on. Peaceful, lake front, and we defnitely recommend this property!

All aboard!
We had a great time at Shorty's Caboose from the time we arrived until our departure. We were there for the weekend to celebrate my son's 11th birthday and we took our 10 yr. old nephew along with us. The boys loved fishing on the lake, we rowed out in the canoe that was provided and fished late into the evening until it started raining,. Running back to the caboose in the rain was fun too! The area was quiet and peaceful, we got to see deer come onto the property and the boys really enjoyed eating in their own little area (on the loft above their bed) they each had their own window to view the lake from as they ate. The owners did an amazing job restoring it, I loved every single thing about our stay. We're already planning our next trip!

Great escape from the city
We had a wonderful time. Mr. Jones always promptly responded to my messages and everything was ready and waiting when we arrived. It was a very quiet area with lots of wildlife to enjoy - a deer we saw multiple times, hummingbirds, mockingbirds, what we are pretty certain was a beaver, and lightning bugs. We had a great time building a fire each evening to make dinner and there’s a nice grill available. We took the boat out and enjoyed spectacular sunsets. My son loved the cupola and staying in a train caboose was an overall unique and enjoyable experience.

enjoyed this day it needs more handicap accessories and what it real in the bathroom and I left hand rail coming up on the other side of the steps and also a ramp in the back for people that are disabled that can get up and get into the deck to see the state are enjoyable let the people friendly clean helpful and very wonderful couldn't ask for a better place to vacation enjoy

Shorty’s Caboose was Enchanting!
We loved the caboose and it was restored and decorated with the utmost detail and love for all things caboose. Checking in was a breeze and we had a birthday welcoming gift. Communication with the owners was punctual and added helpful tips to make our stay enjoyable. The evening fire by the lake was a perfect way to spend our last night in the caboose.

28th Anniversary
We stayed here for our last anniversary & we enjoyed it so much that we decided to do the exact same thing this year. Our wonderful hosts added extra touches for us - a ‘Happy Anniversary’ banner, a package of S’mores, & supplies for our anniversary toast! It’s the little things like this that make this the perfect couples getaway. We both love the peace, quiet, beauty & tranquility of the location. We have highly recommended this place to our family & friends, as well as anyone looking for the perfect place. We can’t wait to visit again!

Wonderful experience!
My husband and I brought our 5 yr old son to celebrate his 5th birthday here and it was nothing short of amazing! We all loved every single detail of the Caboose. The weather had just turned cool, so we were able to utilize the small, electric fireplace and warmer by the queen bed and slept so comfortable on all the beds! Our 5 yr old says his favorite was roasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate by the fire at night, and of course grilling out and opening his presents on the back porch. We heard coyotes howling at night, saw rabbits, and had several deer run past us while out and about. My husband did not catch any fish, but overall he says it was the best vrbo trip we’ve had as a family! Mark was wonderful in meeting us right on time as we arrived to give us the keys and show us around. Amazing experience to stay in a renovated 100 yr old caboose!

Great getaway
The kids loved the idea of staying in a caboose, and the reality did not disappoint. The owners have done an excellent job of making this a comfortable and fun stay. They clearly paid attention to all of the details, making the stay easy and problem-free. Favorite parts, aside from the train, were going out on the lake in the row boat, watching the birds on the water, and evening campfires in the fire pit.

Wonderful Experience
We loved the uniqueness of this property. The owners put much thought into the Caboose, they kept the the structure original with new updates of a nice kitchen and bathroom. The kids loved the kayak and boat for use. We enjoyed the deck while playing cards and enjoying the view. Mark was so nice, he met us and when we left my daughter had left her tackle box and fishing pole he let us know. Just and FYI it is a ways from town, it's best to plan on cooking out.

Adorable Caboose with lovely lake views
My husband and I stayed with our two young boys in the caboose and the kids thought it was the coolest thing ever. It was impeccably clean with super fun accents. Our family enjoyed the gorgeous sunsets here and making s’mores in the fire pit after dark. The Jones’ were excellent hosts who took attention to every detail to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. We would definitely come back again!

Everything was just perfect. The caboose is authentic and looks just like it does in the photos. Mark thought of every detail when he restored, decorated, and supplied it for guests. The beds, by the way, were very comfortable! Our son fell asleep one night on the full-sized bed, so I slept in the bunk and was surprised at how really comfortable it was. The view is SO beautiful. My husband and our son had so much fun fishing. We did catch some catfish with hotdogs which was just thrilling to our son. There was quite a bit of nature to enjoy. We loved listening to the resident mockingbirds (who had more calls than we ever heard from a mocking bird), the songs from frogs at night, watching the herons fish nearby in the lake, and the busy owls at night. It was a wonderful couple of days and we can't wait to return.

Great place!!
We enjoyed our weekend on the caboose. The lake was beautiful and we took our kayaks out several times. There is a flat bottom boat and a kayak available for use on the property. The caboose has been restored beautifully, with a lot of attention to detail. We cooked all of our meals, and there was plenty of utensils and pots and pans to use. The property owners were attentive and available for any questions or needs. We enjoyed fishing off the dock and roasting marshmallows over the fire pit. Bring your insect repellent!

Little Red Caboose
My wife and I really enjoyed a unique stay in a 100 year old wooden Caboose. Mark and Renee you both did an awesome job with the remodeling and the decor. We are looking forward to coming back again soon! I would highly recommend it to all !

Awesome Experence!
My husband, daughter, and I loved our stay at this adorable caboose! The owner's attention to detail is incredible. It is a tiny space but it was perfect for the three of us. It felt cozy and comfy. We even had my in-laws over one night for a cook-out and dominoes and even with the five of us inside, we were still comfortable. We enjoyed the lake and the use of the row boat. The information packet provided led us every where we needed to go. Over all this was an amazing property. This was my youngest child's last spring break trip with her family as a "child" and I could not be more pleased with the experience and memories made. Thank you so much to the Jones family for a perfect location!

The pictures don’t justify how awesome it is!
Mark was super accommodating (we had a late check in)! They left us fresh eggs that we didn’t get to utilize unfortunately, but the gesture was nice! The caboose is incredible, every inch of space was used so wisely and creatively in creating the space. So many details, so much beauty. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to stay again some day!
