I usually see Mercure as a "budget chain". Not true in the case of Hawkwell House. An attractive house run by friendly people. I was there with my children who especially enjoyed the dining room and breakfast. Nice terrace.

dog friendly and quiet place close to the Center
travelled with my dog and was mostly welcome there parking is secure only had 1 meal which was ok very close to the City Center of Oxford and easy reach fm the ring road

Dear Silvia Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay at Hawkwell House Hotel. The hotel is full of history and is over 150 years old, originally a private and birthplace of one of the artic explorers, Francis Howard Bickerton. The house is situated a 5 minute walk from the river Thames and a 40 minute stroll along its bank will take you into Christ Church meadow, which is surrounded by the various colleges of Oxford University and leads direct into the main city centre. Accor Hotels is taking over the management of the hotel in 2020 when a major renovation of the hotel bedrooms and public areas is planned from the beginning of March onwards. Nettes Hotel in traumhafter Lage
Das Personal war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend! Es gab ein reichhaltiges Frühstück im modernen Ambiente. Leider wurde das Hotel von Chinesen belagert, die ein sehr lautes Auftreten hatten. Nachdem das Hotel sehr hellhörig ist, war es somit vorbei mit der Nachtruhe. Das Zimmer hätte etwas sauberer sein können, wir bekamen aber jeden Tag frische Handtücher.

Verschenktes Potenzial, nicht gerade günstig...
In einer alten Villa in dörflichem Vorort (am Stadtrand) von Oxford gelegen, mit großem Garten vorne und hinten ruhig gelegen. Leider lässt der Service teilweise sehr zu wünschen übrig - bei der Ankunft im Hotel wäre ein "Hello" wohl nicht zuviel erwartet, wir wurden aber gar nicht von den beiden Mitarbeitern an der Rezeption begrüßt. Insgesamt macht das Hotel einen etwas vernachlässigten, lieblos geführten Eindruck. Das gebuchte "Familienzimmer" für drei Personen gab es angeblich nicht, das ausreichend geräumige Doppelzimmer war aber auch nicht für drei Personen vorbereitet - kein Extrabett, keine extra Handtücher etc. Das Restaurant, in dem auch das Frühstück serviert wird, ist ein Raum mit Glasdecken im Inneren des Gebäudes, ohne Fenster und auch sonst eher uncharmant. Die Bar ist okay, die Terrasse hätte jetzt im Sommer wunderschön sein können, würde man sich etwas Mühe machen und vielleicht mal ein paar Blumen aufstellen o.ä. Fazit: Insgesamt durch gute Lage (Oxford ist in ca. 15 Minuten gut mit dem Bus zu erreichen oder an der Themse entlang in gut 30 Minuten zu Fuss) und Ruhe (nun gut, die Müllabfuhr müsste wohl auch nicht morgens um 7 Uhr ums Gebäude herumfahren und hin und her rangieren, um die Mülltonnen auszuleeren - die könnte man auch vorm Haus bereitstellen....) ganz okay, auch das Zimmer war okay, aber durch mangelhaften Service und verschenktes Potenzial angesichts des alten Gebäudes in einem schönen Garten bleibt der Aufenthalt leider getrübt in Erinnerung.

Das Hotel ist eine komplette Baustelle!
Nichts davon war weder bei Expedia noch auf der hoteleigenen Homepage erwähnt. Uns wurde ein Zimmer im hintersten Hotelteil angeboten, das wir nach kurzer Inaugenscheinnahme in Zusammenschau mit dem Gesamtzustand des Hotels ablehnten, unserer Enttäuschung kundtaten und das Gelände zügig verliessen.

Das Hotel liegt wunderbar ruhig und enltang der Themse kann man innert 30 min in die City laufen. Uner Zimmer war mit heruntergekommenen Möbeln ausgestattet, jedoch dasBett war gut. Der Room Service war sehr nachlässig ( gebrauchte Tassen wurden stehen gelassen , Handtücher nicht ausgetauscht, der Duschvorhang war beschmutzt. Die Decke des Bades mit Schimmelspuren

Das Hote liegt ca. 3 km von der City entfernt die man bequem mit dem Bus oder per Fuss zurück legen kann. Im großen und ganzen ein schönes Hotel mit freundlichem Personal. Das einzige was ich sehr entäuschen fand war das englische Frühstück auf das ich mich gefreut habe. Ein Spiegelei, eine Scheibe ehr gekochten als gebratenem Speck, eine Tomate, ein Pilz. Das wars...kein Toast, keine Bohnen, keine Würstchen. In jedem Pub gibt es das besser. Das kontinentale Frühstück war sehr reichhaltig mit Obst, Wurst, Käse, Marmeladen, Brot, Cornflakes, Joghurts. Kann man ruhigen Gewissen empfehlen.

Fantastisches Frühstück (auch für Allergiker), super freundliches Personal. Zustand des Hauses gemischt, es sind noch teilweise Renovierungen in den Zimmern durchzuführen, sonst top. Komme jederzeit gerne wieder, gutes Preis/Leistungsverhältnis.

Wohnen im Park
Mit dem Auto oder mit dem Bus 3 kommt man schnell zum Hotel (Iffley Turn austeigen und über die gleichnamige Straße zum Church Way) laufen. Das Hotel ist wie eine große Villa im Park. Sehr angenehm und ruhig. Allerdings war ich ganz hinten im Park (Elm House), wo es besonders ruhig war. Das Einzelzimmer war eher klein aber fein. Perfekt um nach einer Tagung einfach nur auszuschlafen und dann zum "britisch breakfast" zu gehen. Aber es gab leider kein Buffet.

Ideale Basis, um Oxford zu entdecken
Das Hotel liegt etwas vom Zentrum entfernt, ist jedoch leicht zu finden. Ueber den wunderschoenen Fussweg am Fluss erreicht man das Zentrum gut, es fahren jedoch auch Busse. Das Personal war aeusserst freundlich, das moderne Zimmer sehr sauber und wir hatten im renovierten Bad sogar eine Badewanne. Kostenlos Tee, Kaffee und Kekse auf dem Zimmer, Parkplaetze sind ebenfalls viele verfuegbar. Ein schoener Aufenthalt in einer tollen Stadt. Immer wieder!

The rooms are in excellent condition. Felt modern, comfortable and clean. On-site free parking was a bonus. Great to have a restaurant in the hotel as well. Location was peaceful and not far from shops and restaurants.

I enjoyed my overnight stay in the Mercure in Oxford as was given a warm welcome, all queries answered and the staff I came into contact with were exemplary. I enjoyed staying in the original house of Francis Howard Binkerton. My only slight criticism was the grounds could benefit from a tidier appearance . The property is located in a residential area; so, it's very quiet, but not exactly walking distance to town center. That said, it's a short walk to bus stop, or simply get a taxi, which will be a short ride. Very attentive staff will make you feel at home.

Lovely Hotel needs a little tlc in places
The parking spaces were a bit difficult to get into and the rear wall of the property and antique door/gate needed some tlc or they will be lost. There were also some maintenance rooms with stuff showing in the windows, didnt look very premium. But these are minor issues. If I was having my wedding there it might bother me though.

Room was nice and clean but due to being put in the older building down the back the room was smaller than expected given we paid for a privilege room. The room did still have the other perks but I found the pictures on Expedia to be a little misleading if they consider this room to be part of the tier.

Beautiful hotel. Excellent breakfast and very attentive staff. Other than the slightly rattly air conditioning/heating unit which woke me up a couple of times, we couldn’t fault it. It was lovely to walk from the hotel along the river into Oxford too.

Our two day stay for our daughter’s wedding has been as close to perfection as we could possibly get… the staff at this lovely hotel are beyond excellent, two members of staff in particular shone… John on reception as well as many other duties and JASMINE who truly helped to make our weekend so memorable, Jasmine is a star, in my humble opinion, the heart of this hotel. I would be proud to have her as my daughter. The food was of Michelin standard presented by high quality staff with dignity and professionalism of the highest order. Our wedding experience was amazing and we would recommend this hotel to anyone who may be looking for a venue for their own wedding. Thank you for looking after my daughter and new son in law. Our stay at the Mercure was overall very positive. We travelled from north devon to visit a family member at the Churchill hospital. We arrived at 1pm on Sunday and didnt expect to check in, but asked in the bar if we could have a quick sandwich before driving to the hospital. we were told that we could only have a roast dinner or chips. When asked, staff were told by chef that this was not possible. This was not a good first impression. Apart from this everything was excellent and all staff were polite, helpful and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.

over all a good hotel to stay in , we got of to a bumpy start, as the room we were givin on arrival did not match up to the type we had booked on line, also the room was not cleaned to a high standard, after speaking with hotel staff were moved to a different room, this was a better room and in a quiet part of the hotel, the rest of our stay at the hotel was a good experience, just to add this was our second stay at this hotel, and we booked the hotel again because of our first experience. the breakfast is very good and you can have as much as you want, the staff are fantastic, if you plan on going in to oxford city centre , it is a good 20 minutes to walk , but could pop on the bus or drive in good car parking around the city, it's a good location for visting surrounding area's, Stratford and M.K. are only about one hour away. if you plan on having an evening meal in the hotel restaurant we felt that choice was limited and prices are high.

The hotel is clean and well decorated! Room design is good! But, no slipper and toothbrush/tooth paste provided! I can never connected to reception by the phone in room (seems connection problem)! So, I need to went to the reception to ask! I was told that slipper is not provided for the room! I am quite surprised for the room over £150 per night! But, I think it may be for Green! But, when I want to brush my teeth, I found not toothbrush and toothpaste provided! It again shocked me! I went to reception again and asked is it not included too! Luckily, the answer is no! I finally got a pack of toothpaste and toothbrush! Save my life!

Beautifully updated hotel just two blocks from the bus line or a less than 10£ cab. Beautiful residential neighborhood away from the noisy bars and restaurants. Great trade offs for more pricey options in city center.
