Let’s focus on the pros first - the hotel was easy to find, it was well sign posted and it's appearance on the outside was nice. There was also sufficient car parking. The welcome at reception was adequate and the check-in process reasonably fast.
Now the negatives...
1) The car park was extremely poorly lit at night with no lights except at ground level on one side – quite dangerous if walking out to get something from the car!
2) The hotel seemed to be operated by youngsters with no management direction visible and so small items like obtaining a printed receipt for bar drinks or turning the heating on became an impossible task.
3) The whole hotel was fundamentally freezing cold in all of the public areas. I spent an evening in the bar/restaurant with a colleague and endured freezing temperatures. I complained several times as did other guests who sat there wrapped up in coats and scarves.
4) The corridors and hotel room had an unusual smell – I can’t say what it was but it didn’t smell quite right.
5) After dinner I returned to my room where I found a constant never ending noise that sounded like a bathroom fan vibrating despite my bathroom light not being turned on. I went back to reception to explain and ask for help, where the receptionist seemingly didn’t believe me and sent me back to my room to wait for the sound to stop.
At the end of #5 I decided that it was not going to stay the night. I packed my bag, paid and departed; and shall not be returning!
