The awesome: great ocean view for relaxation
The good: most of the staff are awesome, friendly, cordial, helpful, nice, welcoming
The not so good: resort is very remote. While you can take a cab or golf cart to town or the beach, the only realistic method of accessing the resort is by boat. If there are no guests arriving or departing, the boat doesn’t run and you’re stuck at the resort
There are basically no activities. All excursions run out of San Pedro, about 15 miles away. On site, there is a volleyball net across the parking lot, jenga, cornhole, kayaks and a pool. Technically, there are two pools, but the second was green…
The bad: the smell is horrible. The staff will tell you it’s the seaweed; however, the seaweed washes up on the entire island. All beach properties remove the seaweed, but only at Margaritaville does it smell bad. Sargassum can develop a “sulfur” smell, but Margaritaville smells like raw sewage. I think the smell comes from their sewer/septic system
The inexcusable: upon check-in, they ask for a credit card for “incidentals”, and that’s reasonable. However, tacking on $100/day for “resort fee” is reprehensible
