We are regulars in Santa Barbara. My wife is a UCSB graduate. We know Santa Barbara pretty well. We have been renting a vacation home in SB that we loved, but it was recently rented for a longer term and not available, so we tried something new.We also use VRBO or directly with owners at least 9 to 10 times per year.Pros:Location: directly across from the beach.Easy walk to Shoreline Cafe, Brophy's, and State Street. Sound level: mostly quiet. After we arrived, we realized that we were very close to the community college, so the neighborhood is home to many students. Sometimes the cars in the area have their sound systems pumped up, but at night, it was fine.Cleanliness: Just OK. A couple of tables were not wiped down, which we took care of. The kitchen had bare minimum of supplies. After walking around the floor with socks, they were filthy on the bottom. We always do a basic test for cleanliness, which is to take a white cloth or paper towel that's wet and wipe around the base of the toilet area. After a couple of short wipes, it was black and full of black dirt. Screens were also filthy. As far as the neighborhood, it was on the lower end for Santa Barbara. Cons: The outside areas where the unit is located are not in good shape. Needs lots of cleaning up and painting. Also, not very clean on the grounds. The windows were filthy and hard to see the beach or ocean unless you went on the balcony. Everything felt like a lower-end motel. Will not be returning.
