The room,staff, and the facility as a whole wS great. Everyone super friendly and so helpful in sharing experiences in both Southport and Oak Island,NC. We only mention the mattress as it was not the most comfortable however not the worst we have experience.

The front office staff was amazing! I couldn’t find somewhere to eat since everything seemed to be close and they helped me get delivery to my room! Also, I never review the breakfast, however the waffles are delicious!! The hotel was just so clean and everyone working was so nice, I will always stay here now if I’m in town.

Our stay here was great. I was in town for the Run Oak Island 10k. Brought my Mom with me to enjoy the area. Hotel staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The entire hotel and our room was clean, comfortable, and in a great location. We will definitely stay here again.

Check in was quick and the lobby was clean. When I got to my room it smelled of cigarette smoke. I immediately went back to the front desk to inform the staff. The lady said she would come back to the room with some air freshener and see what else she could do. About 30 minutes later, as promised she brought some air freshener but also moved me into a different room. The second room was much better. The hotel overall is clean and comfortable. However, there are plenty of areas where it could use some major updating. The elevators look dilapidated with cracked tiles. The bathtub has a weak, worn spot in it that is stained yellow, and the bed frame on one of the beds was bent causing the mattress to sag. The pillows were worn out and tiny. Again, it was safe, and for the most part clean, just needs updating.

The comforter on the bed was ripped from one side that you could see it from when you came in. The sheets were all dirt, every layer of sheets were dirty. When I went to the front desk to ask for a new room, there was no one at the front desk and I had to wait for 10 minutes before someone showed up. I got a new room, but the new room was just as dirty. The sheets were all stained and dirty like someone ate in the bed and the sheets weren’t change just remade the bed. It’s been a week and I still have not gotten a refund. I made a reservation for two nights and I did not stay even the first night. I’ve tried calling to get a refund and no one answers.

Quiet space but poor service
My wife and I had just got married and when we checked in (9pm) the woman behind the counter was strange. At first she was rude talking about a car accident she was in and treating us like an inconvience to her. After a few moments she seemed to warm up a little to us, but was still seeming inconvenienced. Also, when i walked out of my room at 9am i was immediately approached and asked if i was checking out making me feel like i was being rushed out of the room when we had 2 hours until check out. We did enjoy the quietness of the hotel and the room was clean.

I See why this hotel was inexpensive
I had an event on Oak Island and was looking for a cheaper place to stay. I was not expecting cheaper would mean I'd have two stink bugs, a roach and someone else hair all over my shower. This hotel is apparently geared towards the construction workers who stay there, which is fine but the free breakfast should be more than frozen (literally, it was frozen) eggs, sausage and biscuits. I guess the thought was to take it to go. There was also make your own waffles. For a Wyndham hotel, I was very disappointed.

I've Stayed at Better Wingates
The entire fourth (top) floor of this hotel was humid and musty. The desk said that they'd just installed a new A/C system, but it doesn't seem to be helping. The humidity was lower by morning, but that may have been thanks to a cold front moving in overnight. The phone didn't work (completely dead). The enamel on the bottom of the tub was worn off. The breakfast was rather anemic, though they did have a waffle iron. Altogether, this stay left quite a bit to be desired. I've stayed at much better Wingates.
