Balsam Mountain Preserve sits between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Great Smoky Mountains on 4,400 acres, where most of the land is protected forever. That means quiet, green, and peaceful in every season. Just down the mountain, Sylva and Waynesville are full of local shops, breweries, and restaurants, and the Saturday farmers market in Sylva is a favorite. Outdoor days are easy from here, with waterfalls, hiking trails, trout fishing on the Tuckasegee River in nearby Dillsboro, and sunset views along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
