One word- cockroach. I went to bed around 11:00PM, and I looked up at the ceiling to a bug I had never seen before. I texted my daughter a pic and asked her what it was. It was a cockroach. She said VA was known to have a problem with them. I stood on the bed and banged a book against it, and it fell. I took another picture, to make sure I had identified it.
I only stayed one night, and hardly slept at all. I found out that the contact info that the owner shared with me was only texting, when I called about the cockroach. She had said she could be reached until 10:30PM only. I texted her questions BEFORE 10:30 about how to get the fan to work without having the light on, asked her about breakfast (it was a separate charge) at 9:55 but no response. My last text was at 11:47, when I told her to cancel breakfast.
I texted her again at 9:44 am. I had found a hotel that didn't have cockroaches.
Her other issues: the room smelled musty, probably from the cockroach problem. The faucet dripped. The AC was not adequate. There was no ice. The coffee machine overflowed. Drawers to put my clothes and things were filled with tacks, old office supplies and electronic detritus.
It was a horrible experience.
I asked her for a refund and told her it was a morally correct thing to do. She told me that I MUST HAVE BROUGHT THE COCKROACH in with my luggage. It was absurd
This owner clearly has issues with maintaining this property. She refused accountability. DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!
