We stayed at Casa Oso in Ahwanhee over a long four-day weekend. The house was impeccably clean, the surroundings were gorgeous, and the communication was a 10/10.
We encountered some issues that would be overlooked in a cheaper rental, but at $X a night, one would expect better.
- There is no actual dining room table. The center island in the kitchen is the only table for a group to eat (we went in the winter, so outdoors was not an option). It felt crowded with four adults and two kids, so if you are a bigger group, you will need to figure out a better plan for meals.
- The gas burners are too high and need to be calibrated. Even at the low setting, flames were above the grate, and food was constantly getting burnt.
- The kitchen sink faucet loose/finding hot vs. cold water was challenging at times.
- The kitchen is NOT well stocked with cooking utensils -- needs wooden spoons or more implements to cook with; cookie sheets; large serving bowls. We ended up having to buy extra kitchen bowls/baking sheets just to make a big meal.
- THREE dishwashing soap pods. Expect a group to do AT LEAST 2 loads of dishes a day (breakfast and dinner). It was HIGHLY annoying that we had to find/buy supplies that should absolutely be included. It felt stingy and cheap.
- FOUR washing machine pods. SEE ABOVE. Had to buy more.
- 3 dish towels COME ON! And I think we were only given one roll of paper towels. We had to buy extras. What do they expect guests to use to clean up spills?
- OH, I guess the bath or beach towels? Uh, nope. Only given one per person. So they intend for guests to wash the towels? But with only four soap pods for a 4-day stay?
- No broom, mop, or vacuum cleaner. We got the feeling they don't expect people to cook or eat in the house... We had to buy a broom.
- Sulfur smell from water in guest bathroom -- need a water filter for the entire house
- Wobbly toilet in the guest bathroom
- Toilet area in the master had a deep urine smell as though it might be under the flooring.
Hopefully, the owners can fix these issues, but if not, at least guests can be prepared to bring the needed items from home.
