This was a gem of a place. My family was a little hesitant at first to reserve this property because we usually like to have a full laundry (there is only a clothesline), but we were attracted to its lakeside location. And the location really is wonderful. We used the kayaks and paddleboards from the boat house on Herring Lake, the kids enjoyed swimming around the dock and pontoon, there is a fantastic forest trail behind the property, and a beautiful Lake Michigan beach is an easy ten minutes walk away. The cottage is part of a historic logging township and the setting is very relaxed with lots of outdoor benches and tables. The cottage itself was great for our family with two young kids, but would be a little small for two older/teenage children. Overall we had lots to do, from borrowing games, water play, using the playground, and walking the trails, as well as visiting our favorite spots in Frankfort and Beulah. We hope to return.
This place is a truly special spot. We had plenty of room for our family of 5 for 5 nights over Labor Day. The cottage is really cute and a great place to come back to after swimming at the lake across the road or the beach at Lake Michigan a 5 minute walk down a walk way. We spent hours hanging out on the covered front porch, reading, listening to the waves on Lake Michigan, and watching the tall pines out front sway in the wind. We bought dinner one night from Watervale and ate with friends on top of the boat house and watched the sunset. We hiked to Old Baldy and took a lot of side adventures along M-22. I hesitated to write a review because Iâd like this place to remain a secret. Itâs a truly special place and I hope to return soon.
This place is just awesome. Cozy, but well equipped and very hard to beat the location on an inland lake and minutes to Lake Michigan. Already booked to come back next year - we loved it.
