Pros: Location is great! It’s in the flatter part of town, so no walking up steep hills (you might still need to walk up a lot of stairs to your room). It’s really close to the waterfront, Vons, restaurants and most importantly the Catalina Cookie company (went there 3x). Cons: 1. my information was compromised somehow bc I received a phishing scam text from someone related to my reservation here. Note: Hermosa will not send a text asking for your credit card info. Someone tried to trick me with that. 2: It was hard to get ahold of a live person at the hotel. I tried calling at least a dozen times during business hours to verify that scam text. I had to message them via the expedia app. They answered by the end of the day. 3. I knew the property was dated. I’m even okay with less than perfect baseboards, rust, etc bc it’s a seaside location. What I wasn’t okay with was general dinginess. I wiped the sticky floors with paper towels and it was so black. I also accidentally nudged the microwave a bit and that revealed a layer of filth underneath it. Lastly, there were bits of dirt or something in the sheets. I put my feet in and felt crumbs or something. The staff seemed nice in person, but I think they’re short staffed. 4. The sheets/towels were rough. 5. AC blew cold air, but it’s loud and the thermostat isn’t worth a darn. It just turns on and off randomly. — This was the low season, so we didn’t complain, but if I were paying high season prices, I’d be pretty annoyed.
