Please be aware before renting this cabin.The host was gracious enough to allow us to check in at 2:00 instead of 4:00 since some of my kids were not snowboarding the first day, and I did appreciate that. However, when we arrived, the house was absolutely freezing — colder inside than it was outside in the snow.The owner told me someone would come between 4:00–5:00 to fix the heater. In the meantime, there was only a tiny electric heater provided, which did nothing to heat the house. We waited patiently, but no one arrived until after 7:00 PM. The repairman came in asked for a lighter to light the pilot on an extremely old wall heater. When I asked how the back bedroom would get heat for my kids, he shrugged and said, “I don’t know. I can’t help you.” The house did not start to warm up until around 1:00 AM. We had to go purchase electric blankets and space heaters just to get through the night.The bath water started hot but turned cold almost immediately. The TV wouldn’t work because the internet was down. I messaged the host multiple times (about six total), and the response I received was, “We’ve never had all these issues — you can leave.” Leaving was not an option, as Big Bear was completely sold out.The host offered only a partial refund, which was not acceptable given the lack of reliable heat. Thankfully, VRBO stepped in, attempted to contact the host (with no response), and VRBO issued a full refund. Extremely disappointing experience overall.
