This was my husbands experience checking in.
We arrived at 11:45pm on Friday night, much later than we’d hoped, due to traffic from the snows. When we arrived at the front desk, there was another family that had just pulled in as well. No one was manning the front desk. A placard was on the desk that said to call this number if no one was there. I and the other person waiting to get checked in called that number. When we called, we were told by the person who answered that we had to hang up and call another number. We did so, and when we did the phones behind the front desk at Vacasa started ringing, and of course no one was behind the desk to answer that number. When we called back to the first number, no one would pick up.
After about 15 minutes of waiting around and trying to figure out what to do next, we heard someone snoring in the back room behind the front desk. I and the other person went through the gate to see if we could get some help and we found this person asleep in a chair in the back room. Later I learned his name was John.
John was completely out of it, and it was not just grogginess from sleep. His eyes were glassy and his speech was completely slurred. I asked him if he could help us and the first thing he said to me was, “Check-in is after 4pm and check-out is 10am.” I asked him if he was OK because he was not behaving normally. It didn’t appear he was going to do anything for us, but upon pleading he finally got up. He went looking around for our reservations. He asked us our last names, probably about six times each. It was almost comical, and the other person waiting to check in exchanged glances with me, raising his eyebrows and shaking his head.
The other person eventually produced a confirmed number and John was able to check him in. I then gave John my confirmation number. He said he couldn’t find it and that I would have to call the number on the placard. I tried explaining to him that I had done that, and so had the other fellow, and they simply give us another number to call and it rings at this front desk. As much as I tried to explain this, John kept telling me to call the number. He simply didn’t want to help anymore, he was confused, tired, and completely out of sorts.
Eventually he found our packet. He apologized for the inconvenience claiming it was left the wrong place. Altogether from beginning to end this took 45 minutes, and we were checked in at 12:30am.
