The Inn is a special place. This is not your typical BnB or Inn. Your room will be fully decorated to recall the music of a location: Memphis or the Delta perhaps. The entire house in general, and the living room especially are basically a personal museum. Blues, Jazz, Soul, RnB and other African American cultural heroes from Dr. King to Obama are represented.
But make no mistake, this is not a 'Hipster Hangout'. The wooden cross in the entry hall is 2 stories tall! A quick and unobtrusive Grace was spoken before meals. The proprietors owned a successful Blues Club on the Gulf Coast, but this home is more temple than party spot.
My welcome to the Inn Upon Moon River was a tour of the living room that made everybody late for supper. It was just that important to show me the music memorabilia. Then supper was family style with 5 dishes and plenty of good conversation.
My hosts needed to attend an all day church event the next morning, so breakfast was pretty quiet and pre-prepared. But the next day breakfast was again family style with 5 dishes and plenty of it.
So if you need a cooky cutter hotel or familiar BnB experience this may not be your thing. But there is no other Inn anywhere like the IUMR and this was a memorable visit with a gracious family.
