Everything we needed for a comfortable stay

My family’s stay at High Country Abode was exactly what we needed. The property was clean and presentable and the beds in all 5 bedrooms were big and comfy! The house is situated in a lovely neighborhood just to the north of the downtown area. It takes literally 10 minutes to get anywhere in Flagstaff, and the location was perfect. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others as well.All that being said, future renters should be aware that this is a duplex. My family stayed in the downstairs unit and I can confirm what prior renters have stated in their reviews—if the upstairs unit is occupied while you are here, you will hear every one of the upstairs occupants’ footsteps loud and clear. We were well aware of this before we arrived and it didn’t bother us because most of our time was spent out of the house. We also got lucky, and the upstairs renters vacated on our second day so we had peace and quiet for most of our trip. But my partner had difficulty sleeping the first night. So… you have been informed. Bring a white noise machine or noise canceling headphones just in case you are not so lucky! The common areas are the living room and dining room, which were accommodating for our group. The kitchen is small and not suitable for congregating. The garage is huge, but must be shared with the upstairs unit, which was not an issue for us. Other than that, everything was great!

We really enjoyed this property and location. We were able to walk to “town” since we were sharing a car with our son. It is also walking distance to Thorpe park and dog park. The property was comfortable. The two things that I would mention to other renters is that, although the property is dog friendly, the yard is not secured. Small dogs can go under the fence at one end and larger dogs (and possibly small dogs) can easily jump out at the other end. We didn’t have any issues but kept a close eye on where our dogs were. Finally, it was lovely to sit out back and enjoy the weather, a cup of coffee or read. The train is close but not too loud, especially from inside. From outside it’s just a quiet rumble in the background.

Nice place but needs some cleaning

Overall the place was spacious and provided everything we needed for our stay. I enjoyed the space with 5 bedrooms and even an air mattress was provided. On the other hand if you don't like bugs reconsider. This place does need a very good extermination. There are spiderwebs everywhere especially outside by the doors and windows. I found a spider in my bathtub, in the living room. We found one in one of our coolers we left in the kitchen area and not to mention i found a spider crawling on my pillow in my bed. Needless to say this place needs a good cleaning and extermination. So if your ok with spiders and bugs i say its a great stay other than that …. you've been warned.

No sleep

Although the tenants in the upper unit were polite and kept the noise to a minimum, every step they took came right through the floor and ceiling. Do not book this unit if you value your sleep. To put your car in the garage you must go through the front door, through the unit, and open the garage from the inside. No remote, nor a code to open from outside. No instructions within the unit as to WIFI - we were obviously using the other unit's connection until they checked out, then had to call for completely different sign in instructions. This place needs some serious attention. Kitchen stocked just minimally - 2 coffee makers but only one carafe, remote for air conditioning does not work, no check-out instructions. Appears not alot of thinking has gone into this rental - though I doubt anything can make that noise from above acceptable.

While the new kitchen and bathrooms were very nice, they fell short on upgrades to the rest of the house. Won't rent here again.

Poorly equipped

Upon arriving with a party of 12, we were disappointed to find the kitchen stocked with only utensils for four and virtually no cooking equipment (no pans, mixing bowls nor cookie sheets). We contacted property management and struggled with Dora for days, resulting in no further progress. We were forced to borrow equipment from neighbors just to prepare a simple meal. Repeated pleas went unanswered. The residence itself is located directly beneath another with very little soundproofing. Pray that your neighbors are not early risers, otherwise you will hear every word.

Needs soundproofing

We were on the bottom floor of a duplex (it was not listed as upstairs downstairs) The top floor was rented out as well, the listing stated that we could park 4 cars in the driveway, however the upstairs duplex also had 4 cars so there was no room. The upstairs neighbors every footstep could be heard from 6 in the morning to past midnight. Every chair pushed in and out, Every door opened and closed. The sounds echoed through our downstairs unit. Also the customer service who called us to address the parking situation was unpleasant, demanding, and told us to park on the street despite the numerous "No street parking during winter" signs listed. Also this is not being leased by an individual "Leslie Ostermann" as said in the advertisement, but "The Platinum Rentals Experience" group.

Photos did not match the property

I had an elderly group of family and friends with me. When we tried to go out to sit around the firepit there were so many weeds, overgrown bushes, spider webs, it was obvious the outside had not been cleaned up at all. We did use the jacuzzi one night, but we had to sweep all of the leaves and weeds off of the patio before we could go out there. The house was hot, and there were NO fan controls anywhere in the house. You knew we were bring 10 adults total, but there was not enough seating around the dining table for us to have any meal together, nor enough seating for us in the living area. Mollie was a life saver when we arrived, as we had NO dinner plates, no pots or pans. We also had NO spatulas to cook with. So disappointing.

Great Home Base to Explore the Grand Canyon and More!!!

What a nice, clean (and newly renovated) home!! When we arrived the owner had a very nice little movie welcome basket for us, thank you, that was so sweet and unexpected!! It's rare to find a home with 4 king beds - our grandson's loved having a king bed and tv to themselves every night. The home was very comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. The owner was very responsive to email, always replying within minutes. The concierge was also very responsive and sent us several great ideas for places to see and eat while in the area. We were able to travel to the Grand Canyon, Sedona and Jerome - explore and return home each night - worked perfect for us, and I would happily stay here again in the future!
