Ruin, Near Glaisdale This derelict building stands isolated in a field. It is square in plan but of quite an elaborate construction, slate roofed with distinctive brickwork used in the edging and corbelling. It was used as for the storage of blasting powder and is one of the few visible remains of the Glaisdale Ironstone Mine which operated from 1862 to 1874. The mine was a shaft mine, which has been capped and is located nearby, and ore was taken across a wooden bridge over the River Esk to the ironworks. In the distance is the houses of Carr End.

Lovely staff, dilapidated water damaged rooms.
In spite of some very lovely staff, this hotel is in an appalling state and desperately need of a facelift. Water damage on the walls, peeling paint, leaking toilets, a broken shower and windows that haven’t been cleaned in years. The owners need to spend a lot of money on this establishment that ...

One night at Jury’s.
I stayed just one night. Room was ok. Restaurant as well. Not a great breakfast but minimum is done. Nevertheless the surroundings didn’t appear nice to me.

I stayed for three days. A fantastic, clean, pleasant place with a spacious, comfortable room and excellent value for money. Every member of staff I met was fantastic - incredibly helpful and very pleasant. Would definitely recommend.
