The most photographed street in Lisbon is arguably Duarte Belo's Bica Street. It is located in the historic and picturesque Bica neighborhood, one of the most typical and bustling neighborhoods in the city, known for its small bars and, above all, the iconic cable car that runs through it. Constantly captured by tourists, the cable car has been going up and down the hill since 1892.
This small neighborhood, situated between Bairro Alto and Cais do Sodré, consists of a set of sidewalks and staircases dating back to 1597, following a landslide. Largely unaffected by the 1755 earthquake, Bica offers a beautiful view of the Tagus River and retains its colorful 17th and 18th-century buildings, many of which always have their doors open and feature balconies adorned with flower pots and laundry hanging on clotheslines.
