Fun Fact about the Longboat Key Village: The peafowl have roamed the Village at the north end of Longboat Key for roughly 60–70 years. According to local lore, their story began sometime in the 1950s or 1960s, when a Longboat Key couple received a male and female peafowl as a wedding gift. The birds eventually got loose and they decided Longboat Key suited them just fine. Generations of their descendants became fixtures around the Village.
