The views are indeed breathtaking. It was incredible to lay in bed and watch the panoramic view of Maui at sunset. It's a lovely place. We enjoyed just hanging out there and watching the birds (we were well supplied with bird seed for the feeder). We did some cooking and found the kitchen to have very nice tools and appliances. Even tiki mugs! We got to visit with Dawn in person and meet the cats. She was very kind and shared lots of good information. She even gave us a book! I would definitely recommend. Please note that it may not be the best place for someone who is clumsy, there is a step down in the bathroom.

Clear instructions, timely and friendly responses, and great recommendations! The home was spotless, with an amazing view — perfect for anyone who wants to center their trip around nature. Being much closer to Haleakalā National Park than the resort areas made our sunrise trip easy and stress-free. A generous and accommodating host. Highly recommend!

This is a unique and beautiful property with outstanding views from both decks. It is distinctive because of its secluded, off-the-beaten track location and upcountry elevation. The private pool and hot tub access are fabulous amenities. This is our second stay here and we are determined to return!

This place was so nice we had to come back and stay again as soon as possible! A true gem of a stay on Maui. The location and views are stunning. The accommodations are private and easy to access. We loved the pool and sauna, especially at night.! This place was a real treat to stay at and provided some beautiful memories to keep. Would love to do it all again.

Perfect way to end our honeymoon

This property is absolutely breathtaking, I’m sure I took atleast 50 pictures or the view from the bedroom alone. The hosts were extremely kind and welcoming and were quick to answer with any questions we had. This was our last stop on our elopement/honeymoon in Maui and it was the perfect relaxing and quiet end to it. We would love to come back again someday soon.

Amazing!

Dawn and David have created a resort feel without the crowds. We stayed in their Jungalow for three nights celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. It was cozy and the views spectacular! We were able to reserve the hot tub through their scheduling app which worked great.We love to bird watch and were even provided birdseed to fill the feeder right outside the large windows to watch them up close. Good location for visiting Haleakalā. Highly recommend!! Well done Dawn and David!!

Relax and Recharge in Makawao

This was our second time staying at David's place. We returned because it is a perfect little getaway for us, close to home but feels like such a treat. The accommodation is clean and comfortable and there are so many homey and cozy touches. Whether you are kama'aina or visitors from afar- you will really enjoy this place.

Breathtaking Views and Distinctive Maui Property

This is a truly unique and lovely retreat-like property. The setting - overlooking lush, pastoral, upcountry sites, against a backdrop of amazing birdsong and foliage - is truly unforgettable. The amenities (including pool and hot tub, full kitchen, access to laundry, etc.) really add to the experience. You do have to be able to navigate stairs and appreciate tge more rustic and remote slice of Maui here.

Adventure to have on Maui!

Everything about this place is magical. The views amazing. On the side of Haleakala looking towards West Maui mts! Lots of things to do on that side of island and great restaurants. Hosts were awesome.

Beautiful property

We loved this piece of heaven. The views are incredible. It’s nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the touristed areas. Upcountry is so pretty and lush. We hiked five minutes away. Got to eat in some really great upcountry restaurants. Found a new beach that is gorgeous, Baby Beach. It’s not for everyone. There is a very windy, steep road of about 15 minutes up from Makawao. We got used to it and it’s pretty. The jungalows’s decor is really pretty and it has all you need. Only downside is there are steep stairs leading up to the bedroom. No fun going downstairs to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. But it still is a very special and unique place. We enjoyed it very much.

Peace and scenery in upcountry

Stayed here a few years ago, and we loved our return stay. Very peaceful in a beautiful setting with incredible views, this is a unique and fantastic way to experience Maui. Great, clear and concise communications with David. We look forward to returning…mahalo!

Incredible Experience

The Jungalow was an amazing spot to begin our Hawaiian vacation. It was the perfect spot to explore upcountry and East Maui. We loved being only an hour drive to sunrise and a good spot to begin Road to Hana as well. So much adventure to explore around here. We enjoyed dinner at Mama’s one night (what a treat), but loved coming back to the Jungalo to rest our tired legs the other nights. A good soak in the hot tub is the perfect end to day whether watching the sunset or the stars twinkle. Loved all the suggestions from Dawn — the Poke from the grocery store in Pukalani was amazing — too many choices and all delicious. We grilled some local, aged grass fed strip steaks on our lanai that we purchased down the road at the general store in Makawao. Delicious! All of the little touches here were amazing — fresh lemons and limes from the garden, little umbrella’s and tiki glasses for your cocktails, fresh flowers everywhere, twinkle lights on the umbrellas, I could go on and on. . . Perfection!

Peaceful and Restful Stay

We had a great stay at the Jungalow in Makawao. Dawn was extremely accommodating and personable. We enjoyed listening to the sounds of birds and nature surrounding this unique property. We also loved the town and people. The only comment I would add is that the bathroom is downstairs so if you have any sense of urgency in the middle of the night or have difficulty with stairs you may want to reconsider. Other than that it was just what we needed to end our 10 day trip to Maui.

Peaceful getaway

Lovely comfortable, upcountry property perfect for experiencing Maui away from the hoards of the resort areas! Perfectly situated for exploring the fun towns of Makawao and Paia, the beautiful Hookipa and Baldwin beaches, the road to Hana, and Haleakala. But only an hour’s plus drive to South and West Maui. Fun windy drive to the property! We loved the bright decor, light filled spacious unit and the wonderful views. The pool was a bit cool for us because of the cooler March temperatures, but really enjoyed the spacious hot tub. (The teeniest drawbacks were the bathroom being downstairs and the bed not being against the wall.)

Jungalow was amazing!

Wow.. what a breathtaking property and cottage!! The jungalow was one of the cleanest and most beautiful properties I have ever seen! We blew off previously made plans in the area just to stay on the property and enjoy the amenities longer. The gardens, pool, hot tub, and sauna were amazing. The views from all windows but especially from bed were priceless. The owner gave excellent communication. We are already dreaming about our next trip to Maui and decided the Jungalow was so relaxing and beautiful we would stay much longer and not make any other plans while there ☺️ thank you for a perfect stay with wonderful memories that will last for the rest of our lives!! Thank you Dave and Dawn!!

Perfection

The property was more beautiful than the pictures show. It was the perfect way to experience Upcountry in Maui. Very comfortable bed, lots of space, outdoor space had tremendous views from every direction. Host greeted us on arrival but otherwise gave us complete privacy…we never saw another person. The pool, hot tub, and sauna were added luxuries. This property is a special place.

Upcountry on Haleakala

Wonderful place on the side of Haleakala on Maui. Views towards the north Maui were beautiful. Beautiful ride up the side of the mountain and once you get here, so relaxing, hot tub and pool area were amazing. Mahalo.
