Beautiful, peaceful vacation house. Roomy enough to have your own space. Deck is perfect spot to enjoy coffee in the morning, beverages at night and the verdant countryside vistas.
Melissa and Brian's home was just as described. Peaceful, clean and quiet. Easy to locate. Comfortable beds. Driveway is on the steep side, which was disclosed in the listing. However, we had also stayed here in April and the driveway was not that bad. But, this month of May brought lots of rain and has made the driveway much more difficult with the washouts. Definitely more of a challenge with multiple deep ruts. Our other couple had no problem last month with their sedan but it was a challenge for them to get up the driveway this month. Better with a SUV. Marion is relatively close and has some good restaurants: Sisters Cafe breakfast lunch; Macados and Moon Dog also very good. Husbands were hiking on the Appalachian Trail which was not too far to access. Would definitely recommend this home.
This is an older double-wide home that is adequately furnished. The home is out in the country, away from downtown Marion. The views are fantastic, complete with grazing cattle on the hillside and wild deer next door. However, the house was extraordinarily dirty, such that we four adults were uncomfortable. We didn't seek another place to stay since at least the sheets were clean, the main floor areas swept, and I cleaned the best that I could to make it livable for the short time we were there. I have advised the owner of the many areas that need attention. We did not have a problem with the steep gravel driveway, but it had deep ruts which caused some bad bouncing coming in and out on the SUV.
The home is a decent distance off the highway but the scenery you'll see while driving to it are gorgeous. On the first day, we saw 3 deer and 2 rabbits! The driveway is very steep and made of gravel, so keep that in mind when choosing what vehicle to bring. If it has been raining, your tires may slip a bit going up.
Upon arrival, the views are stunning and my dog had a blast running around the open yard. There was a cat lounging on the deck (Not sure if it belongs to the home or a neighbor, but he stayed the entire time we were there). The home is plenty spacious considering we had 6 people plus a dog. The fixtures seem older (shower heads, beds, couch etc), but still functional. There was a welcome bag with snacks, chap stick and a pen inside, which I thought was super nice! There's also a folder with plenty of brochures for local places to eat and visit.
I took my dad for a quick get away over the holiday weekend. It was perfect. We loved this home. It had everything we could have needed plus was dog friendly.
We are thankful for hospitality and cleanliness of this home.
I am so thrilled to have found this property âŠ. The views, the quiet, AND our Golden retriever was happy! I grew up close by & my parents live around the corner so it made it easy to visit with them.
There is easy access to all my favorite places downtown and the lake, aka Hungry mother Park. I cannot wait to come back and commune with my favorite VA backroads .
Melissa's property was a fantastic escape from my typical city living. You will find yourself surrounded by rolling hills, beautiful stars, and a peaceful quietness. The house itself is fantastic with every amenity thought of by the host. We enjoyed the small touches that were geared toward guests - we truly had everything we needed! The hosts were super communicative and easy to get in touch with if we ever needed anything. The internet was frankly amazing considering the remote location. Overall it was a fantastic stay! And even though it seems remote, you are still only minutes from Marion, Chilhowie, Abingdon, and Hungry Mother State park, so it is truly a great location all around.
It's a really nice house. But the people that clean for you are not doing a good job. The floors were dusty, they hadn't wiped the shelves or anything it wasn't terrible but it wasn't like before. The Master bathtub is stopped up. There was mouse dropping in the master bathroom my brother in law wiped it out but it was like that again the next morning so you have a live in tenant. Lol. There were some bugs in the bedrooms to. The hall bathroom light was going out to. We used my husbands flashlight which worked good. And they put towels on the beds and they were still wet. Which made the beds wet. But those were little things. But th cleaners are slipping. The windows were also dirty with hand prints. But we really did enjoy ourselves. Thank You for sharing your home with us. We really appreciate it. We look forward to maybe next year coming back. God Bless you and your family.
