To answer your "did the host seem welcoming" question, there was no interaction with a host...just the rental company. We did get a few emails that seemed like automated communications with door code, etc. But nothing warm or welcoming. The house was fine, but maybe could have been a bit cleaner. I do understand that it is difficult to keep a large property like this one in top notch condition when there are renters in and out of it week after week. Something that needs immediate attention is the broken toilet seat in the lower level bathroom. The toilet seat is cracked in half. I didn't love four days of getting my rear end pinched every time I used the rest room! There is no way the cleaning crew or maintenance people didn't notice it is broken, and that seems like an easy fix that should have been taken care of. The gorgeous view of the lake and the ski hill are the best part of this home. It was also nice to be able to walk to the arcade and shops, restaurants / bars next door.
