Really enjoyed our stay at the Blue Heron! When it says beachfront it really means beachfront. Opened the door and we were mere steps from the beach. Room was clean. Very convenient to shopping and dining. Staff super friendly. The part that impressed me most was the gentleman at the front desk for check in and check out, he was the most friendly and gracious man. So accommodating. I am planning a return trip to the Blue Heron!! I highly highly recommend a stay here. You won’t be disappointed.

A hidden little gem. Simple, eclectic, clean. A kitchenette in our room small but efficient. A ground floor room with the perfect view of the ocean and literally walked out onto the sand. A very kind gentleman checked me in and the housekeeping staff was super friendly. Very pleased with the stay and would definitely stay here again!

The indoor pool was nice. Very noisy, tried to call management about noisy neighbors and the phone was not even connected. Management was not very accommodating when asking for towels and coffee when they didn't clean room

The blue heron was an all around pleasant place to stay. Very convenient by car to restaurants and to the beach via walking. Well worth the rate I was charged for the time of year.

Clean, convenient, and great price. Could walk out on the balcony and watch/listen to waves. Could walk out front door and watch the sun set over the sound. The indoor pool was warm and the large spa was relaxing!

Room was filthy, Expedia tried to contact about a refund, hotel blocked expedia’s call, refused to refund room and I never stayed because of the situation. BE AWARE, they scam you

People outside smoking weed when my children were walking by. Which the hotel staff can't help but maybe more signs would be helpful? -- probably not BUT worth a try. It was nice to have the indoor pool when it was too chilly to swim in the ocean/outdoor pool. Great views, nice sized rooms.

They give you dirty room, won't give another room, won't honor the cancellation, Quicklyclean room while I am standing there, no cleaning supplies, just emptied the wastebasket full of the previous persons trash… I told them I was leaving, when I called expedia for a refund, place will only refund 1 night and tells expedia they want me to come back tomorrow for the same room

We are so sorry that you did not get the room you like for one night stay at Blue Heron and for which we have refunded the one night amount. For the consecutive two reservations we about to give you another rooms and were suppose to become active on the respective Check-in dates, remains with EXPEDIA

I have known the Blue Heron for many years. I knew it was an older motel. Our room was very clean, The water was so nice and soft. No noise, no disturbances. Ice machine was well accessible. I had reserved a King bed/room and they took my reservation. When we got there, we were told that all of the king rooms/beds were being worked on. Wife asked about a Queen. No, we don't have any. So we went from a King to a double with no apology, refund or anything. We were the 1st to check in that day. I know it was winter time at the beach but they should have told me they had no king rooms available and let me make other arrangements. They should have marked these rooms off as not available when you reserved them. That overrode any good things that I received from them.

The property it self is a bit run down. That being said all the rooms are ocean front and the sound of the waves at night out you right to sleep. I have 2 wants for this property. Black out shades for the front doors and to have them use non toxic cleaning products and detergents for the linens. The fragrance from the bedding made it hard for me to get to sleep.

I was really surprised when I rented a room here. I had a late appt and didnt want to drive at night. The room was so clean to me , spacious and had a kitchenette !! The king size bed was nice and neat with crisp sheets and pillow cases I would like to stay here during the Summer one day because there is privacy on the porch with a double high chair A heavy one !. The mattress was perfect for me . They spared no expense on it. I need to find out that brand because I want one just not as big.. I was very pleased and hope I will be able to stay there again in the future for a few days .

Already recommended The Blue Heron to others
We have family in the area that we were there to visit them. This was our first time at the Blue Heron and we were very pleased with everything to do with our stay. Our dog was with us and they accommodated us with a first floor room in order to make it easier to take our dog in and out. Our room was clean with access to the parking lot and the beach. We plan to stay here everytime we come to OBX.

My first time staying there. Very impressive. Old but well kept. Had a very large and water front room. Check i was great.Staff very pleasant. Pet friendly which is a plus for me.went ahead and booked foe September. Will probably be back before then.

First off i booked ocean view he tried to put us in a non ocean view room. Saying all ocean view were filled. He lied its off season. The room was falling apart. The light switch plate in bathroom was hanging off the wall. This room need lots of repairs. Never will i stay here again.

Check in at kiosk was fine. Room was clean with excellent shower pressure and soft towels. Sand is creeping up on this beachfront hotel so gets everywhere but great place to stay.

Everything was good, except for the check-in procedure. They use a 'live' person in front of a picture background. I had to register using this kiosk. There was a person behind the desk., he should have been able to conduct the registration. I prefer to work face to face, not yhrough video.

We didn't mind that the motel was old and dated, becuase it was comfortable and enjoyed the balcony and view of the ocean. There was always hot water. However, the property was not well maintained. the screen to the porch was ripped and an outlet did not work on the cabinet. We also had no soap and had to request that and an extra hand towel. We had NO housekeeping until the day we were to check-out. The check-in by kiosk was ok and the staff on the otherside of the camera was pleasant, friendly, and polite. It was a little impersonal though and would have preferred a human presence to check-in.

Very clean, but definitely needs some updating. Other than that, great place to stay by the beach! We had a room with 2 double beds, microwave and fridge. Comfortable for all of us.

Great Location
This motel is an older facility and could use some basic maintenance, i.e. paint on rails and stairs. The rooms are definitely dated but ours was clean. However, all the soap and shampoo dispensers were empty. The hot tub was broken. Pool was nice and warm. Hated the check in kiosk. Kept going down and took forever. But despite everything, it was most definitely on the beach and with a location like that, who cares about some little things?!
