The pros of this VRBO outweighed the cons as far as delivering what we were looking for in a Russian River Wine Country home base.
This house is perfectly situated between Jenner/Pacific Coast/Highway 1 to the west, Guerneville/Russian River Wineries to the northeast, and Occidental to the south. We went into both Guerneville and Occidental for dinner, which were no further than 15 minute drives. Some of our favorite Russian River Wineries were no more than 45 minutes away (Porter Creek, Russian River Vineyards, etc.), which made for a peaceful and relatively quick drive home after wine tastings. The house is also located in the redwoods and off of a creek, which was peaceful* and what we were looking for.
*However, the creek is on the other side from a main road (Bohemian Highway) which means that cars are zipping by pretty frequently ~100 yards from the back patio when you're relaxing in the hot tub. This wasn't terrible, but the bigger issue was that none of the windows have curtains/shades/etc., so our group felt very exposed at night when it was pitch black outside and all of our lights were on in the house.
Finally, the house was recently remodeled with modern touches and appliances, but everything felt either dirty or in some state of repair. For example, the pillows in the bedroom were all covered in hair and the hot tubs jets weren't functioning properly. For a cabin in the middle of the woods, these things are to be expected, but the photos posted on VRBO portrayed a much cleaner, up to date house than what we experienced.
With all of that said, the owner was responsive during our trip and seemed to act on feedback from earlier reviews (Ex: there was plenty of paper towel rolls in the house!) so I'm optimistic that this place is a work in progress and will be in much better shape for future guests.
All in all, I would recommend this house for groups like ours (two mid-twenties couples doing a weekend of wine tasting in Russian River Valley!) but maybe not for families or people who are clean freaks when they travel.
