The Outlaw is no ordinary desert getaway. Set on 17 acres in Pioneertown, this one-of-a-kind retreat comes with its own Old West town, complete with a saloon, chapel, and train you can sleep in. Gather your crew for evenings at the saloon, soak in the hot tub overlooking the wilderness, and explore trails right from the property. Featured on Netflix's World's Most Amazing Vacation Rentals, it's a place where the house is as much of an adventure as the destination.
The Space:
Part Western movie set, part sprawling desert retreat, The Outlaw is made for groups who want more than a beautiful place to sleep. Across the property, weathered wooden storefronts, a working chapel bell, and an authentic railroad car create a playful world of their own. Inside, the renovated main house offers an entirely different perspective, with contemporary comforts, rustic character, and expansive windows framing the surrounding mountains. Five bedrooms spread across the main house, two private casitas, and the train let up to ten guests share the experience without sharing every waking moment.

-Outdoor Amenities-
The Outlaw's grounds are an experience in themselves. Wander between the wooden buildings of your private Western town, ring the chapel bell, or settle into the saloon for an evening that feels like stepping into another era. The chapel doubles as an art installation, while the railroad car and old-fashioned storefronts add an unmistakable sense of place.
Beyond the town, the landscape opens into 17 acres of rugged desert terrain and mountain views. A 409 sq ft Ipe wood deck provides a beautiful setting for the built-in hot tub, where you can soak while watching the colors change across the surrounding wilderness. The seasonal cowboy tub offers another way to cool off during warmer months, while two propane fire pits and hammocks invite leisurely afternoons and evenings outdoors.
A propane BBQ makes outdoor meals easy, and trails leading directly into the neighboring nature preserve offer opportunities to explore without leaving the property. After dark, the open desert skies make stargazing a favorite part of the stay.
The grounds are not fully fenced, allowing the property to retain its natural, open-desert character.
-Living Area-
The main house balances the Outlaw's larger-than-life personality with spaces designed for genuine comfort. Wide windows bring the desert landscape indoors, creating a dramatic backdrop for time spent together. Western antiques, weathered wood, leather seating, and collected furnishings give the interiors warmth and character without sacrificing the conveniences of a modern home.
The main living room is a natural place to regroup after exploring the property. Settle into the generous seating, enjoy a quiet conversation by the fireplace, or simply watch the changing light over the mountains through the expansive windows.
For a completely different atmosphere, head to the saloon. With its dark wood interior, vintage Western details, atmospheric lighting, and ample gathering space, it's the property's most memorable social setting. Whether your group is sharing stories after a day out or spending the evening together, the saloon gives The Outlaw a personality few vacation homes can match.
-Kitchen and Dining-
The main house kitchen brings a bright, contemporary contrast to the rustic surroundings. Blue cabinetry, white subway tile, a spacious wood-clad island, and distinctive Western-inspired lighting create an inviting place to prepare meals and spend time together.
The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking during your stay, with modern appliances, generous counter space, and island seating that allows guests to gather while meals come together.
For evenings with a little more character, take the gathering to the saloon. Its generous seating and vintage atmosphere make it an especially memorable setting for group dinners, drinks, and conversation.
-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-
With five bedrooms, seven beds, and 4.5 bathrooms, The Outlaw accommodates up to ten guests across several distinct spaces. The arrangement is particularly appealing for groups of friends, couples traveling together, or families who appreciate having their own places to retreat.
Main House: The main house includes two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The primary bedroom features warm wood finishes, carefully selected Western furnishings, and an ensuite bathroom. The second bedroom has two twin beds that can be arranged as a king upon request, providing flexibility for different groups.
Green Casita: A separate bedroom suite with its own entrance and ensuite bathroom. Its detached layout offers added independence while remaining part of the shared property experience.
Yellow Casita: Another private bedroom suite with a separate entrance and ensuite bathroom, ideal for guests who prefer a little more personal space.
The Train: Perhaps the most unusual sleeping quarters of all, the property's railroad car has been transformed into a bedroom suite with its own ensuite bathroom. Staying here is a chance to experience the Western theme in a completely different way.
The five-bedroom total includes the two main-house bedrooms, both casitas, and the train suite.
-The Saloon & Western Town-
The Outlaw's defining feature is its very own Western town, a collection of buildings and installations that turns a vacation home into an immersive destination.
At its heart is the saloon, a richly detailed gathering space with old-fashioned woodwork, vintage furnishings, eclectic Western decor, and atmospheric lighting. It's a place to spend an entire evening, particularly when everyone would rather stay together at the property than head out.
Nearby, the chapel features a working bell and a church art installation, adding another wonderfully unexpected element to the grounds. The train, which doubles as guest accommodation, completes the Old West setting.
The entire property has a playful, cinematic quality that feels especially appropriate in Pioneertown, a community with its own history as a Hollywood Western film set.
-Surrounding Area-
From The Outlaw, you can walk into Pioneertown and over to Pappy & Harriet's. Pioneertown was founded in 1946 by Hollywood investors including Roy Rogers and Gene Autry as an Old West set worth visiting, and you can still catch mock gunfights on Mane Street. Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace is known for live music; if you plan to have dinner there, we strongly recommend booking in advance.
