Our family thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this home: it was spacious, had new central AC, indoor & outdoor dining areas, heated pool, hot tub, and spectacular views of San Diego Bay and the Naval Base. Hans was an attentive host. He was quick to respond to questions before our trip. He went above & beyond to give us all the comforts of home: free WiFi, new gas grill, pack-n-play for toddler, new beach towels, ice chest. The home is in great location, easy access to downtown, restaurants, boating, Coronado. We couldâve stayed longer just to enjoy the home!
We had a wonderful getaway at your home. The pool and hot tub were great. Enjoyed the patio and firepit every night. House was well stocked for the 6 of us. Would stay again!!
City and Bay views are the best around. We spent a lot of time on the patio enjoying the view of the city, the Bay, Coronado Bridge and North Island with a spectacular sunrise and city lights at night. BBQ and enjoy the pool and the view. The house is a grand Mid-Century modern and on the San Diego Historic Register. Accept that she is aging well and you will learn to love her. The kitchen was adequate for all our needs. The master suite is large. The electrical system is a bit quirky but was not a problem. The Navy jets are loud but we love the show. No A/C but we had a constant ocean breeze and did not need it. Would certainly come back.
Our family had a great stay here! The view was truly amazing! Great neighborhood with lots of good restaurants nearby. Location was great for going to all the main attractions - zoo, beaches, etc.
Things to be aware of: The house did get warm due to no AC. The pool hours were slightly inhibiting if you have kids that wake up early.
Overall we had a great stay and the manager was very good to work with!
Our family of 9 enjoyed this Armada Terrace home immensely. We visited with 3 adult couples and 3 kids (12, 9, 3). The house is located in a great location/neighborhood with easy access to all the San Diego attractions. The views from the house and the yard are beautiful with all the glass on the backside of the house. We had no issues with comfortable temperatures inside the house visiting in July (open windows and open doors). The kitchen was well stocked allowing for the ease of cooking breakfast and dinner every day. The patio and pool were a great place to relax, enjoy the view, enjoy coffee, and watch the kids in the pool. The house has some quirks due to the age but i think that really adds to the character of the house and fun conversation. Lots of space inside and out for the whole family. We would definitely return!
The house was super comfortable, clean, and tastefully maintained in the period design/decor.
Other guests have mentioned how many light switches there were. Itâs true! But we found them as a charming part of a truly historic home and beautiful home.
Pool was super clean and refreshing. Jacuzzi was great and had amazing views of San Diego.
Hans was great before during and after our stay.
What a gem!
This is a beautiful mid-century modern home with fantastic views of downtown San Diego. The pictures really donât do justice to the view. All the expected amenities were available, and the manager was extremely attentive to our needs even on Christmas Day when we checked in. The location is quite perfect as it is close to so many attractions. The only negative for some people would be that this is not a brand new home. We did come across a few issues with the house during our stay, to be expected as this is an older home, but again everything was taken care of immediately by the manager.
Our family needed to get out of town! So we decided to go see my son in San Diego. I have 8 kids and half have moved out. I was able to get 7 of them to join me on vaca so I was really anticipating letting them all relax and spending time just being. The house was better than the photos. The view was spectacular. In the morning the mist would cover the bay and as the sun warmed everything up, the mist would dissipate. It was very magical! The kitchen overlooked the bay so I prepared meals while I soaked in the view. The rooms and furniture were nicely appointed. It was very comfortable. We had plenty of towels to use by the pool, The pool was also heated and the jacuzzi overlooked the bay. The day view was wonderful, but the night views were also equally wonderful. Everyone had a great time. If you are in the area, go check it out!
We had a wonderful time staying at Villa Armada! The house was beautiful and very clean (Iâm quite picky about that). Beds and couches were super comfortable. There were lots of towels and a fully stocked kitchen. The view is amazing - I could look at the harbor all day. Location was perfect for what we wanted to do in San Diego - 20 mins to Coronado, 20 mins to the Zoo, 15 mins to downtown and the waterfront, 30 mins to La Jolla. Also very near the airport but without the airport noise. Very quiet and peaceful. We really enjoyed the hot tub, but didnât use the pool as much as we thought we would since the weather was cooler than weâd expected (the pool is heated, but a hot tub temp feels much better than heated pool temp when the air is 60 degrees!). Hans was incredibly responsive and easy to work with - I appreciated his thoughtful answers and quick responses (sometimes in less than a minute) to all of my questions.
Besides the fact that the house and property are amazing, someone booking this property might also like to know:
1. It can be a little hard to find at first - its driveway is off of another driveway off of a dead end street, and a bit hidden by the house in front of it.
2. There are huge (like 2 story) windows throughout most of the house - which are great for seeing the view from most rooms - but also hard to heat well. So if youâre staying there during a cold spell, you should know there are space heaters provided in each bedroom and the living room which are very helpful.
3. Thereâs no pool or hot tub use before 9 am or after 8 pm and you need to be careful not to make too much noise outside so as not to disturb the neighbors. These rules seem consistent with many places in San Diego and we didnât have a problem with them, but it seems like good information to have when youâre deciding whether or not to book a place.
Again, we had a wonderful time, and just wish we lived closer so we could easily come back again sometime soon.
The house is quirky and interesting but the VIEW is AMAZING! We loved the integration between the house and the back patio/pool which allowed for a time to stay together. All in all a GREAT home that we would definitely stay at again.
Great property to be close to the action of San Diego but be removed enough in the hills to have peace and quiet with tranquil views. The outside space is great. There are plenty of lounge chairs, a fire pit, and outdoor dining. The pool was fun to cool off in the afternoons. Thereâs a hot tub with great views of the bay below. My kids enjoyed both immensely.
The house is a historic property with remnants of the 60s and 70s. It was fun to see the house and its original state. There were still plenty of modern amenities. The place was roomy enough to spread out with our family of six. The days were warm and the nights were cool. Most properties in San Diego donât have air-conditioning. There were plenty of fans to cool off the afternoon and evening.
The location is in Point Loma just above shelter Island. There is easy access to restaurants and some shops. Downtown San Diego is less than 15 minutes away.
Hans was extremely responsive and helpful. Our flight arrived fairly early in the afternoon and we were able to check in early. I strongly recommend this property to anyone traveling to the area.
This house and the view are even more stunning in person than in the photos. Our group of 10 adults (ages 27-41) thoroughly enjoyed the backyard, pool, and hottub. The on-site washer/dryer were excellent, the house itself was large and beautiful. This home comfortably sleeps 8 adults (not 10). Two of our group had to sleep on uncomfortable fashion-futons. It was not ideal, but they were great sports about it. The backyard "quiet hours" were taken very seriously and were strictly enforced by neighbors and the owner. Neighbors are not happy about loud groups at this house. There is no A/C so you need to keep the doors/windows open for air-flow, but then sound/noise/music carries very easily outside. We had a wonderful time, but were constantly stressed and concerned about creating too much noise after receiving complaints on our first night. The kitchen was extremely well-equipped, the owner was very responsive when we asked for more laundry detergent. Lots of parking space and a two-car garage. The house was challenging to find (for our Lyft driver), but once we found it it was lovely. Seriously, this location was wonderful (except for the neighbors/noise situation). We stayed for 5 nights and experienced multiple plumbing issues less than 24 hours before our check-out time. Our final night/morning had one working shower and one working toilet for 10 adults (yikes), but fortunately this only happened on the last night. I'm wishing the owner best of luck getting that repaired. To summarize, Cons: comfortable beds for 8 not 10 adults, plumbing issues, serious strictness on noise and outdoor activity. Pros: Incredible/effortless view, the pool/hottub, and the general vastness and beauty of the home itself. The owner was also a nice guy just trying to do a good job all-around.
We had a great time at the house with the unbelievable view of the City! This view could not be beat. Location was so close to airport without hearing the plane noises (although the Coronado military base had some noises, which we actually thought was interesting to watch sometimes), close to downtown, to Balboa and Zoo, and to Mission Bay. The house was unique, a retro to yester-year, and a nice pool and hot tub. Because it was a historical building, it did have some outdated lighting, plug-ins, and showers. But in a way, that kind of added to our experience!
The property is located on top a secluded area with breathtaking views....Especially from the Jacuzzi. The home is spacious and styled well. The property manager Hans was friendly and attentive to all our needs. Will definitely return :)
Our family had a fantastic stay. Wonderful, iconic home with all the amenities! Breathtaking view and centrally located. We would love to stay here again in the future! Thank you so much for having us.
Place feels like Don Draper might drop in momentarily
Have you seen Mad Men? Did you like the style? If so, you are in for a treat. And, the centralized location cannot be beat.
The property is really spacious and inviting. The view is off the hook. The pool is nice-- as is the hottub. It has everything you need-- a grill, an outdoor fire pit, nice pool furniture, plenty of towels and floats, etc.
The only thing that could be a negative for some-- as is noted in other reviews-- it is a time capsule. That means that the ample storage is a bit dated and might be a bit creaky. On a happy note, when we reached out to the property contact because a hinge fell out of a kitchen cabinet, he offered to have someone out the next day to fix it. We declined because we were too lazy and it wasn't a big deal.
If you stay here, you will probably enjoy your visit.
When you walk in the front door, the view takes your breath away! Loved the architecture of the house, and the unique original appointments that have been saved from when it was built in 1961. The pool was sparkling clean, we rarely used the beautiful and large living room, because we were outside most of the time. It is a wonderful house, very private, tucked away at top of the hill. Everyone in our family enjoyed immensely and have a million pictures. All necessities close by, easy to get anywhere in the city. It is a "will be back" property!
The house is a classic custom mid-century modern design. We chose it because of the style and uniqueness and it did not disappoint. The views are every bit as good as the pictures and it is very quiet and peaceful to sit out on the patio and watch the sail boats in the harbor. Classic furnishings with a lot of personality. Interesting history of the original owner and the architect - worth looking up. It is an older house that has some wear, but that is what we expected for a home that has the style preserved. Good access to airport, downtown and right by Shelter Island and the new Liberty Station development. We enjoyed our stay.
Our stay was simply amazing. Hans was such a great host as he showed us around the historic home. I could not imagine a better place to stay, close to everything yet quiet and completely private. We will be back!
This was the best VRBO weâve rented. We traveled with our 4 college kids and 1 high schooler. Very spacious which was very helpful . Hans the property manager was incredibly resourceful! The view of San Diego Bay was beautiful!
I travel quite a lot and stay at a lot of different VRBOâs and this one, by far, has been the most amazing. It is absolutely gorgeous, with one of the best views in San Diego. The home is unique and beautifully decorated. Hans was an attentive and an absolute charm.
