Port an Righ Where the stream flows to the shore is the spot where mariners used to bring their ships in and anchor them to the rocks. Indeed at certain tide levels it is possible to find a large iron ring secured to one of the boulders for just this purpose. In the 19th Century a proper harbour was developed at Balintore just over a mile up the coast.

The castle experience
Nicely located to visit both Inverness and the NC500. Very calm and good value if you fancy sleeping in a castle. As expected with this type of properties the temperature regulation in the shower was very fidgety and water temperature would raise by itself all the time. Room is very spacious.

Platform 1864, Tain in Scotland. A typical town in the Highlands, Tain is a great place to wander around taking in the atmosphere. We visited the museum which has many examples of Tain silverware and a great insight into local history. Here's a shot of Platform 1864, a cafe at the railway station. We spent time here relaxing over lunch. There's a very good menu and the owner has made a great job in the styling of the interior.
