By day it's just another narrow alleyway common in Tokyo, but at night the street turns into a mini nightlife area for the salarymen of Tokyo. With numerous tiny #bar lining up, the nickname comes from the fact in the past so many drunk salarymen doing their "bussiness" there because there's no toilet anywhere in this alleyway. Today, regulation has been set in the area so it is a lot cleaner than before. The alleyway is very narrow and can only fit at maximum 2 people at a time so be mindful of your surrounding when visiting especially when there's many drunk people walking by from the bars. The bars are also very tiny and can only fit less than 10 people at a time. If you are not claustrophobic give them a try, it's a special experience on its own :)

Sean was very helpful and put effort into contacting us regularly to ensure we had a convenient stay. In a quiet side street nearby Korea town, which provides plenty of eating options nearby. JR station is a short walk away. Enough room for us (2 adults and 2 kids).

I’m torn on how to rate this place. Very clean and safe. The property owner is super responsive and friendly. Location was okay. Overall, pretty good. There were three main cons for this place. First and the major one: the stairs. The entrance is at the top floor. The second room, where the kitchen and shower is located, is actually the basement. As soon as you enter the apartment, barely two steps and there is the stairs to go downstairs (feels like a hole in the ground). If you were not careful, one could easily trip and fall. The worst part is that there is no handrail to hold on to. These are steep stairs (not carpeted…feels slippery) so having nothing to hold on to while going up and down is a major inconvenience. If you have young kids, I’d think twice before staying here. If your kids are teenagers or you’re adults with no kids, then this is a reasonable place to stay at. The second issue I had was that the toilet was on the top (entrance) floor and had no sink to wash your hands properly. Well there is a small contraption on top of the toilet but it’s not the most efficient way to wash your hands. Doesn’t seem like a smart layout. The final thing we would have appreciated was shelf space. There are a couple of small table tops to set your things down, but not enough. There is a giant table downstairs but that’s where we ate. There’s plenty of wall space to place a few shelves. Setting these aside, for most folks this place will be great. For a few, perhaps not.

Great apartment in a great neighborhood. 4 minute walk to the Okubo station, 15 minute walk to shinjuku station. It's like staying in the heart of Shinjuku without the tourists and crazy crowds, we loved it! The apartment was a good size for 3 people, would be good for 2 couples as well. Plenty of space to lay out your suitcases. Everything was clean and worked well, great to have all essentials like soap and laundry detergent included. I would recommend this place to anyone and would love to stay there again when next in Tokyo.

The room is spacious, spanning two floors, the main entry and bedroom, and a living space and shower room below. Can easily accommodate four people comfortably, even six. This area is located close to the Shin okubo station, just one station away from Shinjuku and in reality is within walking distance, or taxi if you're dressed up for the night life. There are a lot of hidden gems around. I recommend N2O. Small bar, but great service.

Great stay in fun neighborhood

Great quiet apartment in Korea town. Tons to do and see just down the block and very close to the JR. The apartment was very clean and stocked up and the check in process was super simple. Only thing to note is that the apartment is two stories which our group didn’t initially realize. It was a fun surprise for us but could be hard for some luggage or physical restrictions.

Amazing experience in Tokyo

This apartment is the perfect place for first-time visitors to Tokyo. The location is great, near the JR line, tons of restaurants, and conbinis. The check in prices was so smooth. The host was very communicative and provided a detailed guide on how to navigate to the apartment and use all of the appliances once you’re there. We ended up staying here twice at the beginning and end of our trip. The apartment was perfect for our family of three. We felt safe and had a great time.

A great way to experience Tokyo

This was my family’s first trip to Japan and this apartment was the perfect home base for our travels. The apartment is located on a quiet side street, a short walk from a lively Main Street full of restaurants and shops. The host was a great communicator and sent detailed information about how to navigate to the apartment from the major airports, and English instructions on how to use all the appliances. We felt safe and at home during our stay and loved being so close to the JR line for exploring. The apartment was clean and tidy and had everything we needed for our stay. We would stay here again if we return to Tokyo!

Shin-Okubo Apartment

Our family of 5 stayed at this apartment for 10 days while visiting Tokyo. We are first time Vrbo users. First off, the location was excellent due to proximity of stores and train station. A 2 minute walk gets you from residential alley to crowds of people. This is in Korea town so lots of Korean food options and cosmetics stores. Host was quick to respond and easy to work with. Be warned, the apartment is tiny, with only one bedroom (not 2 as listed) upstairs and the kitchen/living room downstairs. For our family, once we converted the sofa for sleeping and pulled out the extra futon, there was no space left save a tight walking path from bathroom/kitchen/stairs. There is a large table but no chairs and in any case, once the living room is converted to a sleep area, there isn’t much space for the table either. We pushed it against a wall to fit everything. The sofa back was broken, which was also unfortunate, as we couldn’t lean on it and had to be careful not to touch it. The floors were dirty and there was only one swiffer wipe available. We also encountered cockroaches so that took down a whole star. The washer was great but hardly any space to dry the clothes. Shower water temp/pressure also good. We didn’t use the stove so no comment. Otherwise, great location and recommended for 2 people tops. It is just too small to comfortably fit 5 (I think it lists max 6, which is crazy). Also recommend documenting any critters/defects. First time so we didn’t think to do that.
