Had a very surprising experience, paid £65 for 1 single room and didn’t expect much due to the price, just something cheap and cheerful, maybe a bit dated. Room massively surpassed expectations - view of lake Windermere, minimal white/grey design, really clean, and to top it off, an amazing power shower that went ARCTIC COLD (for those who do cold showers, this one’s for you). Had the best stay! Also, it’s right next to the entrance for the walk up to Orrest head for a full panoramic view of Windermere. Perfection.

Not what i expected. It was ok staff were all friendly and helpful at all times. The hotel looked a better standard online that in person. Needs updating not just a lick of paint. I knòw its an old building and would have some creaky floors but the whole bathroom floor wherever you stood creaked i could hear the persin in the next room taking a shower also creaking. There was a difference in floor level going into the room where the beds were which i nearly fell over no warning of it being there. You could feel the floor move when other guest walked in the area. Didnt sleep well could hear snoring from the next room which i know the hotel cant control. The beds at first felt comfy but woke up with aches in side hips back etc the cushions were lovely and comfy tho. Toilet roll was cheap and thin, no shampoo in dispenser but we did bring our own so not a problem. Breakfast the food was ok not very hot to say they are even kept in warmer containers. Second night had food poisoning dont know where from as we ate out apart from breakfast so left early didnt have second breakfast. Parking i feel should be included in stay not extra! Sorry we wouldnt return for another visit.

Whilst there was a restaurant available for independent travelers the main restaurant/dinner availability was mainly for coach guests so we were unable to make use of italbeit the same menu was used

The property was good value for the price but very dated. Hated the shower curtain in the bathroom and the electricians tape around the heated towel rail. The Hotel is not located where the map on Expedia shows you it is located in Windermere not Bowness and is 1.4 miles from the centre of Bowness up a very steep hill

The staff was so gracious and held my luggage so I could explore the town and Bowness on Windermere before checkin. Room is quite small but perfect for exploring the town. The breakfast was wonderful. A bit tricky for one traveling by train.

Convenient location for exploring the top town of Bowness. The area is gorgeous, but manically busy, even in early spring. Our freshly decorated standard double room was large with modern decor and immaculate bathroom. The view of the lake and town was stunning. Visiting in March we were lucky enough to find a parking spot in the small carpark, but I imagine this would be a problem in the summer months at peak season. Traffic on the road is constant so getting out of the car park was a trial each time. Breakfast was lovely with loads of choice. Issues: TV didn't work, staff over the phone prior to check in was abrupt when I asked about reserving a parking spot and paying for early check-in, neither of which were possible. The rest of the staff were amazing and couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable. Bed was comfy enough but the room was boiling hot and I couldn't really sleep because of this despite having the window open. Could have done with another pillow but wasn't worth asking as we only stayed one night. Communal areas such as main corridor to rooms and the breakfast room looked tired and in need of refurb, but the Victorian grandeur hasn't been lost and the veranda was lovely.

We got a great last minute deal. We had a standard room - basic but clean and comfortable. Great location too unless a small hill down to town would be a problem. We’ll definitely look out for more deals in the future.

Absymal stay in a filthy hotel!
Filthy rooms, which are poorly maintained and dilapidated. Complained to hotel management and was given a response that the rooms are apparently acceptable to have cobwebs, dirty tissue in the corner of the room next to mouldly walls, damaged bath sides and wardrobes hanging off the walls. I was also given a response from hotel management that none of the above justifies a refund. Truly appalling stay and customer service. Book here at your peril!

The star in the hotel was very supportive, giving an additional radiator when I said the room was a little bit cold. The room was cozy and spacious and the breakfast they offered pretty nice.

Poor evening meal
I have just returned from a night stay at the Windermere hotel. Last night we had an evening meal included with our 1 night stay. We went for our meal and I have never had such a poor meal. I had Leek soup, it was tasteless and the whole soup was over powered with the smell and taste of pepper. For my main meal I had Hake which again was very poor. It was over cooked and had been sat under a heat lamp for quite a while because it had gone all crusty on the edges. Then for desert it was apple pie and custard. I couldn’t taste the apple as it was all crust which had a very strange taste to it, and the custard was like runny water because again it did have no taste. My wife had vegetable pakora which again was dry and very bland. For main it was a Leek and cheese quiche which was over cooked, then she had ice cream which was ok

Not a good stay
We came to book in and was told we wasn’t staying here. We drove around trying to find another hotel . In the end we landed at the police station who told us that there was only one Windermere hotel . We returned back to the hotel and said we are staying here he found our booking no sorry was said and we spent a hour travelling around l was very mad no apologies were given the man on the desk did speak very good English. The next morning l spoke to the manager who did apologise this service was terrible

Clean and warm no frills hotel. Old fashioned but reasonably priced and is much better than some of the overpriced guest houses in Windermere. Good breakfast best to get it included in your room rate. Paid parking which is poor although you can park in the lay-by next to the hotel if you are taking your car to work during the day for free at night

Could do better
The hotel is very tired Wallpaper coming away in main corridors lift is a bit scary so tiny claustrophobic even…. But on a positive side room was clean and breakfast was good. It’s across the road from rail and bus stations, but I wouldn’t be rushing back anytime soon.
