Our stay at Schlosshotel Fuschl was pleasant, but it fell far short of the high expectations set by the exorbitant prices. The first and most glaring issue is the lack of language training for the staff. A significant portion of the personnel does not speak German, which is surprising for a luxury hotel in Austria. While it’s not an issue for seasoned travelers who also speak English, many staff members struggle with even basic English – an unacceptable shortcoming for a hotel of this category. The hotel itself is not bad: many design elements are well thought out and visually appealing. However, a closer look reveals issues such as dust under carpets, heavily calcified showerheads, and other signs of cost-cutting that undermine the luxury experience. Compared to similar establishments in Bavaria, such as Elmau or those at Tegernsee, the Schlosshotel lacks warmth and the higher standard of quality one might expect. The atmosphere feels less personal, likely due to its affiliation with an international hotel chain. The majority of guests were from China and the USA, a clientele for whom the price-to-quality ratio might seem less critical.
