The property was just as described and perfect for us. It’s right in the heart of Beynac and has an outstanding view of the river.Martine greeted us on arrival and her smile and enthusiasm are infectious. She was super to deal with. During our stay, the owner, Frederique, would check in on us to ensure we were ok and would give us recommendations of places to see and where to eat.We highly recommend.

A lovely historic and well appointed “apartment” just high enough with a bit of a climb to catch a splendid view of the Dordogne! We were comfortable and delighted with our stay.

The house is an old stone house - Understood - but it needs to be updated to convenient standards. Let me preface this review —I have stayed in rentals all over the world in 54 different countries, so I know what rentals are like. Since we were staying for 17 days and working half the time, we would be "living" in this house - that means cooking! The kitchen looks like something out of 1950. It was hard to cook with limited kitchen tools and an antique burner (one of which didn't work). The kitchen had no oven; it was a tabletop model in the living area. The listing does not describe the property correctly. The bedrooms are upstairs and very hot with little airflow. My husband is 6'2", and standing in the room was difficult. The bathroom is downstairs, and the stairs are treacherous at night. The bathroom is tiny (even by European standards). I am only 5'3" / 112 lbs and barely fit in the shower. If I turned around, my back would hit the handle, making it scalding or freezing. There is also a step with a very low header door frame. Hubby is 6'2" and now has 3 gashes in his head from hitting it. A rubber or soft cushioning could solve that. I work remotely, and the internet was way too slow to accomplish anything. All in all, the host could do a lot to spruce the place up. It would be a great stay for a weekend, but not longer. Frederique tried to help, but I think the cultural differences were too great.

A beautiful location situated on the footpath to Beynac Castle. The accomodation is well equipped, spacious and clean. We had initial problems with WIFI but the owners and Martine were fantastic in helping us to sort the issues out and communication was great, so it was all sorted rapidly. We would highly recommend this accommodation and location!

Everything about this area of France is magical. And FrĂ©dĂ©rique’s home in the quaint village of Beynac is a perfect place to spend time while enjoying the countryside. Convenient to everything but do be prepared for the hill to walk up to arrive so you can enjoy the view. I chose la Dordogne over Provence as I wanted peaceful and beauty without overly touristy. It was the end of summer so quieter most likely than 2 weeks prior in the area and I enjoyed all of the PĂ©rigord. The description and photos are true to the house. It’s very charming and cozy but spacious. Yes, the bathroom is downstairs and the shower is a bit small but who cares! You’re in one of the most stunning areas of France on vacation. FrĂ©dĂ©rique is gracious and responds quickly always. I did have a few questions before making my reservation and she responded immediately and was very accommodating. Once I arrived and Martine had met for the check in, FrĂ©dĂ©rique sent a quick text to make sure I was ok and made some restaurant recommendations that were appreciated. I was traveling alone and felt completely safe and at home. You can see a million stars at night with the moon over the Dordogne river and get to see several hot air balloon sightings that are so close you can almost touch them. It was a perfect end to summer.

We stayed at this accommodation from the the 8th August to the 15th August. We have stayed at Sarlat/Beynac four times now within the last 7 years and would highly recommend this beautiful part of the world to everyone. This is the first time I felt I needed to put a review forward. The accommodation we stayed at in Sarlart was fab. Unfortunately, whilst the accommodation is beautiful outside, in a great location and has fantastic views, it definitely needs some attention and love inside. The kitchen and bathroom in particular are very dated and this is not to do with making it traditional french. Lots of the kitchen facilities are missing, chipped, old, broken. We had spent one week prior in Sarlat where we ate out every night because of the choice we had, but we had decided to cook most nights in this accommodation because although the local restaurants are great, there are only a few and very expensive. We did a full weeks shop on the day we arrived and based this on having an oven as advertised. THERE IS NO PROPER OVEN. There are also no sharp knifes, cutlery for cooking, decent plates etc. A bit shocked considering the price of the accommodation. The iron board was so old almost unusable. The freezer doesn’t work properly. The bathroom is extremely small and tap is really faulty. The shower is so small that all of my family members accidentally caught the tap and it went from luke warm to burning hot in a second. Quite dangerous. It appears that the cleaner, Martine does everything for this accommodation and probably too much. A couple of days into our stay, I asked her about the oven. Shockingly, she went into a cupboard under the stairs and brought out a so called oven which was smaller than a microwave???? Under the stairs
what on Earth!!!!! I had to cook some pizzas I had bought on this oven, I had to cut them into quarters and it took 1hour 30 mins to cook two pizzas. This is not what I want to do on holidays. I feel the owner is absolutely thinking I am in a great location, I don’t need to make much effort. I realise now that I should have realised there are only 20 views over a long period of time. To top it, the day before we left I received a text suggesting that my family check out between 7am and 9.30am. Our checkout time was 10am?? I sent a text back stating our check out time was 10am and it was suggested we leave at least by 9.30 to allow her cleaner to clean the accommodation. The owner needs to approve this property.

We researched so many different options in this area and decided on this place. We made the right decision! We were right in the heart of the most beautiful little town. The town is quiet and peaceful but had a boulangerie, a very cool castle, a delicious restaurant (Le petit tonnelle), a canoe service, and the best views around. What a joy to wake up to that view every morning! We were easily able to visit several caves in the area (font de Gaume, Lascaux, gouffres de padirac), chĂąteaux, the jardin de marqueyssac, Sarlat). Everything is so easily accessible from this location. The house itself has everything you would need. We were there during an intense heat wave but the house’s thick walls and shutters kept us cool downstairs. The shower was a bit tricky but we figured it out. We loved Martine who met us and introduced us to the house. FrĂ©dĂ©rique is such a lovely host who helped us choose restaurants and was always there via text if we had any questions. Still dreaming of our evening apĂ©ros on the little terrace there. Heaven.

An old stone building that has everything one needs. The view from the windows and terrace are beautiful but the terrace is tiny! The hosts are very nice and attentive as needed.

The first thing to say is that the view of the Dordogne River and environs will stay with you forever. The furnishings were lovely in the stone abode were lovely. Martine, the helper, cheerful and willing to tolerate bad French. Two important things to know if you are older-Access is by foot up a rather steep stone path and the bathroom is downstairs. Pour moi, ça valait la peine.

I highly recommend this home and location. I believe it to have the best view of the Dordoyne and location in the area. It is on a lovely cobblestone street and everyone who passes it stops to take pictures and chat. The people are so friendly and made our two weeks there even better. Frederique was easy to reach and offered many suggestions during our stay. Martine, the housekeeper was both funny and available to us. The house is within a short drive or walk to four castles, one of the most beautiful gardens I have seen and so much more. Frederique will tell you all about the amazing sites and restaurants. We loved this property...the view of the Dordogne river is fabulous. The house is very comfortable and has plenty of space. Hot air balloons flew overhead several mornings. Be aware that the hill up to the house is quite steep but the view is worth it. Also, the one bathroom is on the first floor and the bedrooms are on the sevond floor.

We stayed at Frederique's lovely stone house for 5 nights in July 2018. During that time, we felt like we had moved back in time, living similarly to the way folks might have lived many decades ago. We walked down the hill to the brasserie every morning for baguettes and pastries (the women there are very nice); crepes for lunch at the cafe (the cafe owner is a bit grumpy but makes very good crepes); and then 6 very good restaurants to choose between for dinner. From the house, it is only several minutes walking to Castlenaud, a 13th century castle that was our favorite on the trip. The house itself was built who-knows-how-many hundreds of years ago, but has all the modern conveniences for a nice stay, including solid WiFi, dishwasher, gas stove with cookware, and a washing machine (like many in France, you use a drying rack to dry). Now let's get to the Pros and Cons. Pros: house has the best view of just about anywhere I have _ever_ stayed in my life; Frederique (owner) and Martine (caretaker) are both very friendly and easygoing, and will make sure you have everything you need; Beynac is awesome, a way better place to stay these days than Roque Gageac, Sarlat, Les Eyzies de Tayac as it still feels authentic; very close to Castlenaud; weekly parking easily arranged at city hall; right on the Dordogne, we canoed 14km practically right to our front door; last but not least, orange cat who we named Pierre Buffiere likes to come by and will be your outdoor cat for the week if you give him some table scraps. Cons: booking and logistics will be easier to arrange if you know some French--Frederique and I communicated in French, and Martine only speaks French--however the home documentation is in English and Martine understands gestures well, so it is certainly doable and worth the effort if you don't have any French at your disposal; it was not possible to pay through HomeAway so I had to arrange a wire transfer and then do the deposit through PayPal, all of which required quite a few e-mails and a fair amount of time; the beds, like most in France, are not as large as I'd like (I'm 6'2"), however they were comfortable; the two bedrooms are upstairs and the only bathroom is downstairs, which makes for a little extra work in the middle of the night if you're over 40 ;) Overall, we had an excellent time there, we are very happy we stayed, and we would certainly like to stay there again on our next visit to Dordogne!
