I thought I got my self a good deal for a nice place (from the looks of the photos) close to downtown Calgary, but I arrived to see a somewhat unsafe old property with wobbly doors, bad stale air in the common area like no one lived there for ages, and a strong paint smell upon opening the rental unit (likely newly renovated and didn't air out the place). We took a brief look and decided the place was not safe nor good for our health and left immediately. After finding an alternative accommodation, I immediately sent a message to the host of the situation and asked for a refund. The host replied apologizing for the inconvenience (caused by his maintenance staff), and said I need to contact Vrbo to initiate the refund.
After returning from our vacation, I contacted Vrbo about the case and asked for a refund. Vrbo replied saying the payment was already released to the host, and it is upto the host to refund. After about 3 days Vrbo replied that the host is not refunding. I sent a message to the host that he knew about the situation, and had asked me to contact Vrbo for a refund, yet he did not refund. He said he never heard from Vrbo and asked me for the case number. I gave him the case number and asked how can he not heard from Vrbo when I received 3 emails from Vrbo. He didn't reply to this and chose to ignore this case.
Should you still decide to book this substandard property run by a host with no integrity, be sure to have a plan B.
