It's not the Ritz, but is clean, comfy and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Plenty of parking and it's quiet, being set back from the main A6. The hotel is being gradually refurbished and it does need it as the decor is very dated. You can tell that it was previously a Premier Inn. It was reasonably priced for one night. I didn’t frequent the attached pub so can't comment on food quality.

Not at all bad!
The hotel was good but had renovation going on which I didn't know about but it was fine. The staff are great and there is a decent pub next door which does pretty good food. The room was big with a decent bed but they don't do a cooked breakfast but that is because it's not worth it for the number of rooms (understandable). Overall not at all bad!

Room itself was lovely. Uninformed about property renovation so unable to relax when checked in due to noise. Dust sheets all over corridors and workmen plastering and drilling etc. Room needed some tlc and door to bathroom rubbed the toilet. Money for room Vs quality gave us a bad taste after walking into a building site.

Dear Larry.We are so sorry about the noise and the dust in the corridors, but yes the hotel is undergoing a slight refurb at the moment.. We do hope you will give the hotel another chance once the work has been completed.

Nightmare … No communication that they did not have proper breakfast facilities … closed Breakfast room … wrong breakfast provided… broken hot drinks machine My room was freezing … the heating was broken … on a night when it was less than -3 degrees. The whole hotel is in need of some care and attention The staff are kind … but not efficient

Dear Kevin.The breakfast you received was the same breakfast we advertise and always sell it was just in a bag. We apologise that the heating was not working during your stay this is due to the heater being turned off in your room which was checked and fixed by the staff. And the breakfast room is currently going through a refurb

great stay
overall room was great one of the single beds was not fully a bed so little hard to sleep on. room was clean but feel could be updated but had work going on in other room which caused no problems. big shout out to mike on the front desk he was amazing with our daughters as they had won a competition and treated them to hot chocs as was late when we got back! defo would stay again

Room 19 The room was big but dated and could do with a refurbished, the bathroom was the worst chipped in the bath in multiple places mold in the tiles and surrounding areas in the bath the shower curtain was turning orange at the end of it and the shower rail was hanging out the wall, if I did not notice it and pulled the curtain across it would of fell out the wall as the wall plugs were also out the wall, the towels provided smelt really bad it had a fishy smell to them and you could smelt it as soon As you entered the room

BASIC ACCOMMODATION
Oldish rooms. Needs uldated. Plugs/USB C socket needs to be near the bed. Bed was clean and fairly comfy. Bathroom was OK. Shower head needs updated. Breakfast is a shocker. Rather not offer it as a "breakfast"

thank you for your review, the breakfast is advertised as basic continental this is due to the hotel not having the facilities required to offer a better option but as the hotel is currently undergoing drastic changes and a refurb we hope you will return for a better offering in the future

Back So Soon.....?
Needed to stay again in the area and having stayed here before chose to stay again. This time we knew the hotel sign wasn't lit and faded into a hidden obscure silhouette against the backdrop of a brightly lit roadside hostelry behind it, (arriving from the south at night). Plentiful parking and quiet despite being near a main road. Be advised, we noted the breakfast choice/options and brought our own food. The adjacent hostelry opens too late for breakfast, and the hotel is not allowed to serve hot food.

A Friendly Welcome
Very friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Large comfortable room. We were so busy during our 'stay' it served us very well as somewhere to return to and sleep. Note breakfast is only continental 'grab and go', so we self catered for breakfast and enjoyed the hot drinks available in the room.

Noisy if on ground floor
We stayed again this time for 2 night's.We were given a family room (even though only 2 adults) initially I was happy as didn't have to climb stairs with my limited mobility- however the window was directly opposite the pub and along with this,rowdy guests and obvious baby elephants staying directly above us it was a very sleepless stay.Hotel staff are always pleasant but as we just had to put the soor key in a box when leaving/checking out we couldn't really give feedback.

Free parking, very friendly service. Chip and pin machine not working, one of the lights above bathroom sink not working, extractor fan not very effective and shower although warm wasn’t the best and warm was when it was at its hottest setting. Bed was comfy, no sockets next to the bed though.

What a tired and old hotel which is well overdue a good refurb and lick of paint - very expensive rates with a very disappointing breakfast option which we paid extra for - we will not be staying again unless we are desperate

I would not stay here again, its an old Premiere inn which is about 5 years out of date very tire furniture and bathroom etc. The breakfast was a joke at £15 no hot food, bread Tesco cheap bread, and the breakfast room was like in a corridor.

Dear Andrew,As we are a small hotel we simply do not have the space for a larger breakfast room. however, we are currently awaiting a refurb of our lobby to be able to offer more space for breakfast. We do not charge 15 for our breakfasts so i am confused as to this figure.

Not the best - Best Western has to offer
We picked this hotel as it had parking in case the trains were on strike. As it turned out the strike was called off so we arrived by train. Hotel is either 25 mins walk from town or a quick bus ride. The buses were very regular and cheap - especially at night so it was quite convenient. We booked a double room but when we checked in we'd been allocated a twin. The chap on reception asked if we wanted a double in stead and said there was no problem switching us - which we agreed to. Unfortunately he probably only switched us for one night as the key card didn't work the second day. It was fine though as 24hr reception so we got it changed. The room was fine - nothing spectacular. Nothing got cleaned or changed between nights and there was only one hand towel - again maybe from changing rooms. The room - they never seem to be able to put a mirror where you can sit to do your make up and the hairdryer didn't reach well to the mirror as well. The main problem was the toilet - it took about 15 mins to refill and when there are two of you coming and going at the same time it was difficult. When I asked about it - it sounded like it might be a problem hotel wide. Overall it was OK for 2 nights. I'm sure there would have been a better option if we'd known the trains were running and we didn't need parking.

thank you for your review, rooms are not cleaned daily this is correct however in the room their is an information card on the desk advising that if you want the room making up to put the card on the handle advising housekeepers to make up your room. the issue you have raised about the toilet has been addressed and staff have been given extra training on how to address this issue moving forward. Your booking actually came through to the hotel as a twin so this is an issue with the systems which is currently being looked into

Friendly and helpful reception staff
The receptionists were friendly and helpful. Hotel rooms basic but clean and bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very basic, would be better to have aink with bar next door to provide breakfasts.

Value for money
The check in was easy, wasnt offered the option of breakfast, but there is the Yarrow next door which did a great breakfast. The room was a good size with a king size bed but not enough pillows. The room was clean, quiet with good black out curtains. Overall definitely value for money
