« It's a decent property. Staff is extremely courteous and helpful. Food is good. Room and toilet very clean. They have a cafe where they keep extremely delicious cream rolls. It's definitely not worth 4 stars accreditation. Wifi hardly worked. TV was so small that I wondered why that was even kept. My booking voucher said they bed size was such that 3 people can sleep. « We had an amazing 2 night stay at this hotel. The hotel is in a very quiet part of town near the Secretariat building and across the street from the former king’s palace complex. We were told that the building was a guest house for royal guests. The building has 5 floors and each floor has 4-5 rooms, all with a view of the mountains. We stayed at the top floor with access to the terrace. Be aware that there is no elevator. The staff was very friendly and nice. There are no eating places nearby...

Lake Changu or Tsongmo is a glacial lake 40 kilometres away from Gangtok.I went there in December…peak of winters..it was freezing cold in gangtok only so you can imagine at an elevation of 3780m.When i saw this mesmerising view of the half frozen lake,my body temp was back to normal due to sudden excitement.The sun rays on the snow and water made them sparkle.It was beautiful.A camera can't capture 20% also of what your actual eyes see.

Prayer flags are colorful rectangular pieces of clothes inscribed with prayers, mantras and auspicious symbols often hung in high passes, mountain ridges in the Himalayas. Buddhists believe that the prayer flags generate spiritual vibrations that are released when blown by the wind and the prayers are carried in the air like silent prayers. Any person and place touched by the wind will be happier and uplifted. (May be that's the reason why people on Himalayas are always happy)

There are 2types of Prayer flags: 1.Lungta(horizontal) & 2. Darchor(vertical) come in set of five 5 flags in 5 different colors and 5 pure lights. Each color represents the 5 basic elements: blue for space, white for air, red for fire, green for water and yellow for earth. Buddhists believe that balancing these elements brings harmony to the environment and good health to the body and the mind. Thus benefitting all..
These Lungta prayer flags are said to bring happiness, long life and prosperity to the flag planter and those in the vicinity.
Because the symbols and mantras on prayer flags are sacred, they should be treated with respect. They should not be placed on the ground or used on clothing. Old prayer flags should be burned. Old prayer flags are replaced with new ones annually on the Tibetan New Year.
