The lighthouse, established in 1749 at Beavertail Point, was the granddaddy of all Rhode Island lighthouses and only the third one—after Boston Harbor and Nantucket’s Brant Point—in the American colonies.
Today is a museum that features a collection of information, artifacts, and conversation about the history and site of the third-oldest lighthouse in North America.
The lighthouse is located in Beavertail State Park at the end of Beavertail Road, at the southern tip of Conanicut Island. There is free parking. The grounds are open to the public.

« We had a lovely stay on Catherine St. for a wedding weekend and the accomodations were excellent. The room was cozy, the bed was very comfortable, and the fireplace and kitchenette were added bonuses. The breakfast was also delicous and enought to fuel us for lots of walking and touring. It was so convenient to be able to park in the inn's lot right in front of the house. We will definitely be back! »

« We loved our stay! Our host was very attentive which made our check in and out, easy. The house was FULLY stocked which was a huge plus. We would absolutely consider renting again on our next trip.Although it did not detract from the overall stay, I would like to warn guests (especially older guests) of the raised dining room, which you can see in the property photos.
