Double Booked
I did not get to stay at this property.
After booking this in June 2023, I sent a courtesy message to the host expressing my thanks and that we were looking forward to this trip. The host did not respond. Fast forward to the week before arrival in early December 2023. I attempted to reach out to the host to confirm trip details since I heard nothing since booking. I used messaging, phone, text, and VRBO customer service. Finally heard back, but still no real check-in info, just that I would get check-in info. Day of check-in, no word from the host, so I had to call VRBO customer service to get information to check-in finally.
We arrived at the property to find other guests staying at the house before we could check in. They had booked through another platform, so it seems we were double booked and no word from the host. Finally I called VRBO customer service and joined a call with the host. The host told me I went to the wrong property even though the listing clearly stated it was the one I was at. I was offered the hosts' other property next door, and we attempted to move our things and check-in there to find the house was not cleaned from prior guest with slept in beds, trash in the kitchen, and dirty bathrooms.
We had to cancel our booking with no place to stay. We had to scramble to find and pay for shelter elsewhere and to get to where we needed that night after this debaucle. Very frustrating experience and difficult communication with the host.
