Abseits und in Ruhe

Sehr ruhige abseitige Lage; Zimmer sind klein, aber in Ordnung; "Reste" der letzten Bewohner waren aber z.T. noch sichtbar (alte Kaffeetassenuntersetzer waren gebraucht vorhanden), auf zwei Gäste trotz Buchung nicht eingestellt (nur ein Handtuchset). Freundlicher Service, der verspäteten Check-out auf Anfrage sofort erlaubte, ohne weitere Kosten;

Room not good, outside of main building, badly in need of decorating, mould marks on ceiling and wall, anything placed on work surface stuck! Bed was good.

We had a 1 night stay

As we only stayed overnight we did not make full use of the amenities. We had an evening meal in the restaurant which was very good and not over expensive and a drink in the very pleasant bar.

A Curate's Egg

Both good and disappointing. Annex room OK but barely 3 star standard - e.g. why no second bedside light? Breakfast buffet excellent and lounge bar comfortable. But one major problem is car parking for disabled guests - only one blue badge space not good enough for any hotel and conference centre. Large car park is probably too far from the Reception and bedrooms.

A night in Widmer End at De Vere Venues Uplands

Just a one night stay for a reunion with colleagues from a previous employer. Nice hotel location with good views. The reception seemed in a very odd location, well inside the hotel. It did not seem logical. Comfortable dual aspect bedroom but the en-suite could do with more space / shelving. Good breakfast.

Room was generally ok. Clean enough but the windows didn't have proper curtain so quite light at night. Also the noise from room above was loud. It is more noticeable if the person above decides to have a shower at 00:40 then is back up stomping around at 6:20!!

Very noisy with the bedrooms being close to the main walk way to the reception With suitcases on wheels clattering along – and the fire alarm going off each day I was there First one was 3am - But staff was very nice..

VERY POOR IN PLACES

According to a staff member it seems this hotel is being closed down or sold, as a result it is clearly not up to the normal DeVere standard at all. My room was badly furnished, tatty, cold and extremely noisy. It felt like a small unloved part of the hotel and I had a really bad nights sleep. Additionally (although I was already sleeping badly) the fire alarm went off twice on different occasions.

Room a big let down

Stayed at quite a fee de veres and i think they are realky good value for money.that said - this one was really poor - the room was very tired and uninviting - the bathroom was basis to say the least and had mould on the cealing - time for a make over me thinks!

Wouldn't stay again

Outdated, needs refurbishment. The basin was blocked and told reception nothing happened. Noisy during the day couldn't sleep after night shift.

Unhappy from Leeds

1 night business trip. Room was small and in a very poor state of repair. In desperate need of refurbishment. Presumed that being a De Vere hotel that the rooms would be reasonably modern - how wrong can one be. Would never stay there again

Nice hotel poor wi-fi

Large conference tour hotel with nice breakfast. Surprisingly unsold to log into free wi-fi with 4 different devices. Reception unable to help.

Could do with a lick of paint

I bet this hotel was the bees knees 20 years ago - but it looks like it hasn't seen a paintbrush since. The rooms are clean and its in general good repair but don't be alarmed by the cosmetic appearance in the corridors!

Pleasantly surprised

The cost of room was inexpensive so we were unsure how nice it would be. We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is in the countryside and comprises several blocks set across lawns around the original house (where reception and the bar is located) . It is used as a conference centre and also for general hotel stays. The reception staff were friendly and professional, and the dining room looked lovely with crisp white tablecloths though we did not use it. Our room no 7 was very clean as was the bathroom including plug holes, water was very hot, there was lovely smelling citrus soap, the sheets and towels were good, and the bed mattress and pillows were comfortable. The slim tv worked well, as did free wifi, the kettle was clean, looked new. We had double patio doors leading out onto the lawns where there were good quality wooden tables and chairs. The gardens were well maintained considering how much work there must be. So while some reviews might suggest this hotel needs updating, we thought this was excellent value, had a comfortable stay and would stay there again.

Good value for money

Only a one night stay though we were joined by two members of the family for dinner. Room excellent value for money, good size, comfortable bed etc (though the bathroom was rather 'tired'); food and beverage perfectly acceptable standard at the price. Would have no hesitation in using the property again.

Setting is amazing and the staff very friendly and helpful. Overall the hotel is clean and tidy and the reception areas are very good but the rooms are a bit tired looking

Needs updating

The Hotel is set in a beautiful location and the main frontage to the Hotel is beautiful however, the rooms are set in blocks away from the Hotel with each individual door facing the outside.The rooms need updating, the bathrooms are shabby and there was a damp smell that lingered everywhere in the room. Very firm bed (two singles held together to make a double). We skipped the buffet style dinner for the bar menu and the food and service was fantastic. Suitable for a quick place to crash for the night but don't be expecting to stay in a impressive manor house.
