Hubbard Glacier
Hubbard Glacier
Detail of the Hubbard Glacier. The largest tidewater glacier in North America at a whopping 76 miles long, 1,200 feet deep and over 6 miles wide at it’s outflow. Somehow the remoteness and atmosphere was enchanting in the overcast, misty & almost spooky conditions. And this is in Disenchantment Bay! #GreatOutdoors
Tall, wide and generally massive, Hubbard Glacier is a natural wonder in glacial blue. The largest tidewater glacier in North America at a whopping 76 miles long, 1,200 feet deep and over 6 miles wide at it’s outflow. The part of the face you see here is around 200 feet high though in places it can be up to 400 feet. It is a major calving glacier. We saw some relatively minor activity but sadly missed the photo opportunity. However it is a mesmerising and awesome sight somehow made the more so in the overcast atmospheric conditions when we were there.
