„Es war die beste Unterkunft unseres Panama Urlaubs. Die Location ist einzigartig in den Mangroven und es macht echt Spaß, mit dem Kajak durchzupaddeln und zu schnorcheln. Es ist allgemein sehr ruhig und super zum Entspannen. Das Essen war unglaublich lecker und preislich sehr fair. Die Gastgeber sind sehr sehr freundlich und sympathisch. Wir können diese Unterkunft gar nicht genug empfehlen. Wir kommen wieder, wenn wir in Panama sind. Merci beaucoup!“

Tucked away on one of the more quiet islands of the Bocas del Toro province in Panama, there is an ecolodge called 'Cocovivo'. Through a long chain of friends of friends, I discovered this little paradise where peacefulness is key. Originally set up as a co-working space, the owners of Cocovivo made this place a home away from home. Set up with the help of an indigenous Ngobe-Guble family, everything is ecological: yes, that means a compost toilet. If that does not convince you yet, then maybe the possibility to kayak surrounded by dolphins will. Or you can practice yoga on your stand-up paddleboard. Or jump from the diving board right in the Caribbean sea and explore the reef. Or go on a jungle walk and count all the sloths you can see. Or eat delicious food made with very very local ingredients. Or see the stars in the sky reflected in the water bioluminescent plankton. Who needs Bocas' party scene when you have the 'disco' lights above and underneath you right? "Die Hotel Anlage ist ein Traum. Es gibt einen Pool mit Blick in den Wald und einen mit Blick aufs Meer. Direkt vorm Hotel gibt es keinen großen Strand, aber es gibt einen Shuttle zu einem wunderschönen breiten Sandstrand mit einer Beachbar."

"We didn't like the accommodation at all. It was always loud because the bar was right next to the pool, and lots of people from outside came there to party. The pool was incredibly small and looked bigger. Furthermore, the hotel didn't mind even having a dog in the pool drooling all over the water. I found it disgusting. Also, it wasn't possible to swim in the sea.It looks like there's a stretch of beach there from the pictures, but reception also told us we couldn't go into the sea. There were no chairs on the balcony, only one uncomfortable hanging chair, and a second one was torn down. When we asked for two chairs, we were simply told no, because guests were always throwing them off the balcony...We wanted to leave two days early because everything wasn't as expected and as depicted in the pictures. We clarified the matter with Expedia, and if the manager agreed, we were told we'd get our money back. We even found a replacement on-site and went to reception with him. Afterward, the manager lied to Expedia, and we didn't get a cent back. And the hotel even charged us twice. In our opinion, we wouldn't recommend this hotel."
