In the heart of the medieval town of Korčula, the house offers the experience of immersion in history coupled with the comfort of 21st century lifestyle.
About the house:
- The ground floor comprises a combined dining/kitchen area with a separate laundry, including a toilet and hand basin.
- The first floor comprises the living room with a small built-in study area. TV has satellite reception, local channels and as well as smart options. There is a couch that converts to a double bed. Please note that sleeping in the living room does not offer full privacy since there is no door between the staircase that leads to the other levels of the house and the living room.
- The second floor comprises a bedroom with built-in wardrobe and a bathroom accessible from the start landing.
- The third floor comprises a bedroom with built-in wardrobe and ensuite bathroom. A staircase, within the bedroom, leads to a small attic area with views over the rooftops to the Adriatic Sea.
About the surroundings:
- The closest beach is a rocky beach just underneath the city walls. It is our favorite, not only due to it's vicinity, but due to it's beauty :) There are other beaches on Korčula that can be reached by foot or a vehicle (i.e. bus or a taxi boat), as well as amazing islets surrounding Korčula.
- The town gets very busy in the summer, but our street is very calm compared to the rest of the town. There is a restaurant at the top and and at the bottom of the street but you won't be disturbed by the noise.
About the interior:
- Our family has been living on the island of Korčula for centuries and we rent one of our houses. The interior is decorated with portraits of our ancestors and family artifacts.
About the history:
- We don't know exactly when the house was constructed. The base was certainly constructed at the time of the initial urban planning of the town in the 13th century. The upper floors were added later and stone masonry of the upper floors is in typical Venetian Gothic architectural style. The style is similar to the base of the Korcula cathedral which was initiated in the early 15th century. In other words, the house is 500 to 800 years old.
