Sharon and Ken are execellent hosts- they looked after us very well. Their chardonnay, Shiraz and bubbly wines are superior. Certainly recommend this property and their wines!

Best view in the Hunter Valley

Sovereign Hill offeres one of the best views over the Hunter’s wine region. Sitting with your legs dangling in the refreshing water, sipping on some beautiful Semillon, and it seems life couldn’t get any better nor more relaxing! This place is such great value.

Great base to explore the Hunter Valley

Very comfortable room with fantastic valley views. Sharon is very welcoming, the complimentary bottle of chardonnay from their own vineyard was enjoyed on the terrace taking in the view. Great facilities, including the pool and tennis court. Will definately come back

Great with a minor lift

There is no doubt that the location of this provides for a great view, a chance to visit some of the smaller wineries around Lovedale and the finest of restaurants. This lodge is truly ideal for a group getaway but we were just a couple this trip. A few touches needed to make this more memorable although the squeaky bed / mattress is a memory to chuckle about later perhaps despite its annoyance. This was one of just a couple of simple fixes like having a place to put your soap / shampoo in the shower and I was bugged by the noisy fridge at night. They advertise a cheese plate and bottle of wine on arrival which is always a treat and the bottle of their own Chardonnay was very nice, the cheese plate was quite disappointing. Would have been happy to pay an extra $10 towards something a bit nicer. Good to have a light brekky available in the morning or if you're in a group you've got the big kitchen dining area. I'll be back with a group of friends next time I think and spend more time enjoying the view and the facilities.

Great Getaway

Great few days away. Good catering facilities. Excellent pool and tennis court. Very close to many wineries. Rooms close together so some noise around from other guests and cleaners. Would recommend and stay again

Relaxing and Peaceful

This is the 2nd time we have stayed, its such a lovely vista, a great break really away from it all. Good option for Day on the Green concerts as there is a bus at the gate (to know for next time). Sure its not as upmarket as some of the other places u can stay in the Hunter, but this little gem wont disappoint

Quiet and peaceful

Beautiful scenery. Room was great, clean and tidy. Staff were very friendly and made you feel welcome. Location was really good. Overall we had a fabulous time in Lovedale.

Beautiful location near Hunter Valley wineries

We decided to splurge and spend a little more than we were planning to when we visited Hunter Valley. Sovereign Hill looked great on Expedia. The room and accommodations themselves were clean, which made for a comfortable stay overall - but the property itself felt a bit run down. There was a pool on the property, but the pool chairs need to be replaced - they were very old and sun bleached so we didn't use the pool. The mattress in our room was a bit worn out - you could feel the springs in it. Normal stuff for an older property - but simple things that could really boost the comfort of our stay. They gave us a bottle of wine and cheese plate (nice touch!), but they gave it to us on the 2nd night of our stay (Friday) instead of Thursday (when we checked in), which seemed sort of odd - not so much a welcome gift as a gift specifically for weekend stays which made us feel a little unappreciated by checking in on Thursday night. The owner (husband and wife) were nice and helped us get checked-in/checked-out. Their bulldog was super friendly too. Overall - not a bad stay, but if they replaced the pool furniture and updated the rooms a little (replace the mattresses, etc) it could move from a comfortable stay to an exceptional one and make us feel like we got a great value for our dollar.
