The setting is the real gift here. You're on a quiet dead-end road just outside the small town of Lucedale — peaceful enough to hear the birds and feel the slower pace of rural Mississippi, yet close enough for everyday needs and a few local favorites.
A little local history: Lucedale was founded in 1901 and named for Gregory Marston Luce, a timber and turpentine industrialist whose lumber business and the arriving railroad helped the town grow. It remains the county seat of George County and still lives by its motto, "Where People and Progress Meet" — a small town that has kept its friendly, unhurried character while welcoming visitors.
Things to do nearby:
- Palestine Gardens — a one-of-a-kind miniature replica of the Holy Land tucked in the pine woods, with free guided tours. Visitors come from all over the world to see it, and it's right here in Lucedale. - Lucedale Depot Creek Greenway — 28 acres of walking trails, a raised handicap-accessible boardwalk, and two small fishing ponds. Free admission. - Lucedale City Park — playgrounds, splash pads, tennis courts, walking paths, and a 300-seat amphitheater that hosts community events. - Lucedale-George County Historical Society & Museum — local history exhibits on Cox Street, open Thursday through Saturday mornings. - Seasonal U-pick farms and farm stands for fresh, local produce. - DeSoto National Forest trails and Black Creek — Mississippi's only National Wild and Scenic River — for hiking, paddling, and quiet outdoor time. Easy drives from the camper. - Gulf Coast Gator Ranch & Tours (Moss Point) — airboat rides through 105 acres of swamp, hand-feed alligators, and hold a baby gator.
For hunters and anglers: the Pascagoula River Wildlife Management Area is right here in George County — one of the last free-flowing river systems in the country, with deer, turkey, hog, small game, and waterfowl hunting plus year-round fishing. Just bring your Mississippi hunting or fishing license and a WMA user permit. For deep-sea fishing, charter boats run out of the Biloxi, Gulfport, Ocean Springs, and Pascagoula marinas — book a half- or full-day trip for red snapper, grouper, cobia, and king mackerel in the Gulf.
Time your visit for one of Lucedale's annual traditions: the George County Fair, the Gingham Tree Arts and Crafts Festival each November (free admission, 10,000 visitors), the twice-yearly Firefighters Rodeo, the Good Ole Days tractor festival, or the Forest of Fae renaissance fair just outside town.
Race fans: SSR Motorsports Park in Grand Bay, Alabama hosts oval racing, karting, and drift events, and the historic Mobile International Speedway in Irvington has been running short-track stock car racing since 1965.
Good eats in town: start the morning at Lucedale Coffee House, the cozy log-cabin shop on Main Street pouring locally roasted Opossum Coffee. For meals, locals love Landmark Cafe & Grill (Cajun-American comfort food, a town staple since 1917), SNANX Bar & Grill, Hokie's BBQ & Grill, Crosby's Seafood Restaurant, and Rocky Creek Catfish Cottage — home of the all-you-can-eat fried catfish (open Thursday through Saturday). Save room for Havens Down Home Creamery, a working dairy farm scooping homemade ice cream in over 100 flavors. For a night out, Brady's Steaks and Seafood in Pascagoula is a waterfront favorite for charbroiled oysters and ribeye.
Day trips worth taking:
- Mississippi Gulf Coast (45–60 min) — white-sand beaches, fresh seafood, and casinos in Ocean Springs, Biloxi, and Gulfport. Don't miss the Biloxi Lighthouse: built in 1848 of cast iron and standing right in the middle of Highway 90, it survived both Camille and Katrina and is one of the most photographed spots on the Coast. Morning tours climb the 57-step spiral staircase for panoramic Gulf views. In Gulfport, the Mississippi Aquarium has dolphins, sharks, sea turtles, and stingrays plus a 360-degree underwater tunnel, with dolphin and penguin encounters available. In Ocean Springs, the University of Southern Mississippi's Marine Education Center sits inside the Gulf Islands National Seashore — open to the public on weekdays, with nature trails, a suspension bridge over Davis Bayou, touch tanks, and hands-on marine science exhibits. In Biloxi, Big Play Entertainment Center packs go-karts, a 12-lane bowling alley, a two-story laser tag arena, mini golf, bumper cars, and an arcade into one family-friendly stop with its own restaurant. - Ship Island (passenger ferry from Gulfport, mid-March through October) — an hour-long ferry ride to a pristine barrier island with white-sand beaches and Fort Massachusetts, a Civil War-era brick fort with ranger-led tours. Pack sunscreen, food, and water — it's a full-day trip. - Mobile, Alabama (about an hour) — the true birthplace of American Mardi Gras. The Mobile Carnival Museum downtown fills a 19th-century mansion with 14 galleries of royal robes, crowns, scepters, and parade floats — you can even climb aboard a rocking float for the rider's-eye view of a street parade. History lovers should also tour Colonial Fort Condé, the reconstructed 18th-century French colonial fort on the downtown waterfront.
Please be advised: there are 4 cameras on the property, one near the front passenger corner of the rv, one on the back near the ladder, one on the front corner of the driver side slide, and one near the front door of the large shed near the property.
Please be advised: there is a noise decibel sensor and smoking, mold, air quality sensor inside trailer. They do not record.
Please be advised: there are water leak sensors installed under sinks.
This is simple glamping at its best: clean, practical, and welcoming. Come rest, cook a meal, enjoy the quiet, and feel right at home.
We're so glad you're here. Welcome to the Sage Glamper.
