A little gem of a hotel

Weekend away for my partners birthday so we went for the honeymoon suite. The room has a huge bed and a huge bath which was a great surprise for the other half. The hotel was well presented and staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and they made us both feel very welcome. Breakfast was included in the room cost and offered a good choice of continental and cooked breakfast to order. The service provided was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed our visit so much were planning on returning again soon.

Disappointing stay, hotel needs the painting finishing off in rooms, no lights outside so pretty dangerous if you go out in the evening as you can’t see anything. Breakfast was very disappointing, had to sit at a table which had already been used and staff although pleasant didn’t offer to clean it first or replace side plates etc -

Beautiful location and hotel and modern touches on the inside. Room was lovely but can't be 100% it was the king size bed as promised. Staff all polite and helpful. Just a lovely peak district hotel bang in the middle of the bath and the town.

Worst Hotel we have EVER stayed in

Access to the hotel very bad, hard to find on a wet night very poorly signed ,& passed it twice in the dark at a dangerous point on the road. Room cold with no heating on and ths windows wide open( not sure why but a concern,) Room clean ,& bed comfortable. Service at breakfast atrocious, only three at another table, small tidy & clean- People at the other table had to point out that we were there- it than took ,20 minutes to get s drink.Breskfast when it came after another 20 mins whilst ingredients aok as poor as we have ever had+ Black pudding like a hard rubber tyre & only on one plate. Could not get out quick enough. P.Martin.

The room was very spacious, and great for 2 adults 2 children. The hotel is in a great location as its a short walk to Matlock and Matlock Bath. Unfortunately the chef was ill so no food was available after a long 10mile walk with our children so we had to go out again.

The room smelt of drains . Had to lodge the windows open with a toilet roll and a hairdryer as the window latches were broken . The bed and one pillow were very hard and our room being roadside was very noisy as no double glazing . The staff were amazing considering there was only one member of staff on and they were having to run reception , wait on tables , run the bar and find bleach to tip down our drains , and they smiled even though they were run ragged . I hope the owners of this hotel appreciate their staff !!!

Lovely stay!

Had a fantastic stay at high tor!, the hotel is perfectly situated and very clean. Had a wonderful and friendly welcome on arrival. Connor was fantastic, he really did a brilliant job, nothing was too much hassel. Overall very impressed and would definitely stay again!

Great stay, lovely hotel

This review is of a great stay at the High Tor (but see rider at end). The omnipresent member of staff was efficient and good fun, the room we stayed in was excellent, the breakfast was huge and really good. We went to some good bars and a fantastic restaurant locally - what’s not to like? (Rider - we were originally put into a room (11) which although clean was far too hot and in need of some TLC. We simply asked for some help with opening the window (!) and the receptionist immediately offered us a much better room for no extra charge. This was a superb room which we were really pleased with. This would have been a less glowing review but the staff rescued the situation perfectly without us even complaining!)

The best hotel in matlock

Let's begin. The staff were absolutely amazing. Amy who greeted us and couldn't do enough for us to connor the manager who went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. The hotel is stunning and very well presented. The room was great. I highly recommend this hotel.

Never felt so welcome in a place before. The hotel staff (Connor) was so hospitable and a great help to us. I never tend to go to the same place twice, but both the hotel and the friendly staff definitely make me want to stay here again.

Nice room, hotel and location

Room and hotel just as per photos online. Very happy with the room. Morning service was fine, only factor stopping me from rating 5/5 was the pretty abrupt reception received on arrival. Bit of an abrupt and uncaring welcome; but the rest of the stay was fine.

Lovely room, and great service from the front desk, but the restaurant atmosphere was spoiled by an incongruous radio station being played rather loudly.

Fantastic hotel 20min from Matlock town one way and Matlock bath the other, large car park, friendly staff would recommend.
