At the House Beside the Sea(in the style of Jane Austen by the witty lady of accomplished understanding)Oh! Fairest dwelling by the ocean’s side,Where gentle waves in quiet splendour glide,Thy welcome warm did all my cares allay,And lend to every hour a blissful sway.Before our stay, thy words were kind and clear,Throughout our time, thy care did still appear;When parting came, thy thoughtfulness shone bright,And left our hearts in gratitude alight.Within thy walls, each comfort found its place,With every charm a seaside home should grace;Immaculate, with every need supplied,A tranquil refuge where the soul may bide.From porch’s edge, the sunset’s golden hueDid paint the sky in ev’ry tender view;Such scenes compel the longing heart to say,“We must return, nor tarry in delay.”A garden small, yet fit for merry play—For youthful feet that chase the ball away;And but a stroll, the silver beach appears,While shops and fare lie close, in miles mere.Thus, dearest home, accept our fond esteem,Thou art the very dwelling we did dream;And in our minds thy memory shall stay,Till chance or Fate brings us again this way
