Very nice location on the lake. Very nice dock for docking your boat with electric on the shore next to the dock. House could have been a little cleaner. HVAC return was very dirty and the ceiling fan over the table was also very dirty. Had a great time and would consider renting again.
We had amazing time in this property, it was spacious and well equipped. The only thing we have is that the grill was not working and we wish there were more lights outside
The view and location were the best things about our stay. It was unfortunate to see that the house did not look like the pictures posted online, as it is not well updated or taken care of. Upon our arrival we noticed peanut butter on the dinning room table, hair in the toilet, dirty coffee mugs, patched up holes with different color paint, a sticky downstairs floor, missing towel holders and an unsafe and loose banister near the stairs. The pictures should really be updated to show the current state of the house. Iâd also suggest getting a new maid service. For the cost of this house, we were disappointed. You are really only paying for the view.
Clean bedrooms and bathrooms (just iron spots on sinks). Well stocked kitchen, good wifi, nice location, not many steps to the dock. A suggestion: please clean gutters, some deck is getting rotten where water runs down. Also sweep steps and decks once in a while, they get slippery with wet leaves. We had a wonderful, memorable time!
Pros first - We loved the decks, sitting outside, and the dock. The dock is brand new, big, and has deep enough water on one end for kids to jump and dive. We second the recommendation to bring a 10x10 tent to provide shade during the day. Paddleboards and canoe were great. Living space was large and open. Check in was easy, linens and bath towels were provided, and the house was clean.
Cons - You absolutely cannot do laundry due to iron in the water. Laundry will be stained; in fact, our skin was actually stained orange within a few days from the showers. Bring your own water for coffee, drinking, etc⊠Several items in the house were not in good condition. Grill was broken and did not have grill cleaning equipment. Dartboard had no functional darts. Kitchen chairs and table were wobbly - we actually had tools and repaired them ourselves. Lighting above the table was very dim and we needed to use extension cords to move lamps in order to play games at night.
Vacasa was notified about the grill and the iron in the water. We were told that the grill would be repaired on Day 2 but no one showed up all week. We actually repaired it ourselves. Vacasa was also notified mid-week about the iron changing the color of our skin. They told us that they knew about the problem, that it was ânot harmfulâ, and that they âwork on it in between guestsâ. I donât believe itâs harmful, but it is disturbing that everyoneâs feet and nails were stained orange for an unknown length of time. Vacasaâ
This home has everything you could possibly need for a long weekend away, It is peaceful and has beautiful views. We spent the long weekend kayaking and canoeing. Evenings were spent around the large dining room table then relaxing on the dock, deck, or fire pit! The home is situated in a very quiet neighborhood with beautiful homes and gardens. We gave this a 5 rating however we wanted to rate it as a 4.5 due to the need for a through cleaning of the outside living areas, mostly the screened in porch. We did a light cleaning of the porch and were still able to enjoy the gas fireplace on the day the weather was questionable. We highly recommend the Life Is Good Lake House and would be happy to return for future getaways! Proximity to was a plus for us as we are from Maryland and our adult children reside in Richmond. PS - the dogs loved watching all the herons and one even paddle boarded for the first time!
Our friends have been getting away once a year for the past 20 years and your home provided us with a relaxing and cozy home on the lake with beautiful views. There were some minor issues with breakers needing to be reset several times (primarily for the kitchen) and the breakers in the breaker box (behind the downstairs refrigerator) were not labeled. The ping pong paddles need replacing as well as light bulbs in the kitchen and bedrooms. The toilet paper holder in the upstairs bathroom is also in repair. We let the property manager know who quickly responded. The kitchen is in need of hand towels and pot holders. Plenty of plates, bowls, etc. None of these needs negatively impacted our stay. Overall, a very lovely home on the lake and we would definitely want to come back again in the future.
We loved staying here. Great location and even though deck has issues they are working to address, it never stopped us from having a good time. We rented a boat for the week from Shipwreck rentals which was very close and just spent the perfect week with the whole family relaxing, swimming off the dock and off the boat, and enjoying the quiet through the week.
Located on the quiet side of the lake which was nice. The property is a little dated, with some parts needing some work - bathrooms, drawers, dock.
But overall we had a very pleasant experience - would highly recommend for the size, location, and ability to comfortably accommodate two families.
Great location and I am sure hosts! Thx.
Small ants in the kitchen and large carpenter ants in upstairs bathroom and bedroom/bed. Hairs on sheets under covers in lower bunk room. Cobwebs inside and out on decks and porches.
Biggest issue is safety for kids and pets. Inside upper floor stair rails too wide. Even worse the upper deck rails are too wide. Neither would pass code today. This is really an issue that should be addressed unless restricting property to adults and no young children or pets.
Minor, checking out instructions in house say leave linens and online they say try to start a load of laundry (which we have never heard of on a rental property).
Great trip overall, comments are for improvement for future guests.
Great location and living areas are great for group. Deck needs significant repair since a column has sunk. Outdoor furniture could be replaced and kitchen could use more utensils. Had to buy plastic spatula while we were there. Would def stay again but updates could make this place special.
We had a great time at this property! We did a lot of fishing off the dock and on the boat. The house was very clean and comfortable! We will definitely be returning!
The view of the lake, swimming, fishing, house location was fabulous!! Use of the paddleboards and canoe were a huge plus. Lots of space to enjoy the view and loved playing horseshoes and had a fire going, which was wonderful. We did have a really good time, however there is definitely some attention needed at the property. There are a LOT of bugs both inside and immediately outside/screened porch (hole in screen and door doesn't stay closed) so pointless. We had an ant problem in the kitchen on counters and in a bathroom upstairs. Lots of large spiders in the house and cobwebs everywhere inside too. Some large dead bugs found in different bedrooms (not fun with small kids). Totally realize this is a house on a lake, but there hasn't been any cleaning or extermination done in a very long time. There needs to be a larger hot water tank- not enough for a large group to all quickly shower at all. The lights on the path from the house in front and back don't work and we couldn't use the large TV in the basement or in the bedrooms as no remotes. The fridge advertised in the storage room doesn't work and the lighting went out in the storage room and property management was contacted but never showed up to fix it...so couldn't really see to do laundry. The water needs treated to avoid staining and taste is not good so we had to purchase water for everything including coffee and the dogs. There are several outlets that don't work and lamps that don't work either or the ceiling fan/light in the living room. Things are dated- especially the carpeting.
We had a great stay. Overall, great views and we enjoyed our stay. Having said that the house if showing some age. The property had an odor to the water and in the pipes. The water even stained the white towels. Might be the iron in the water or a septic tank issue. The hot water heater is small for 7 people and property can sleep up to 10. Camp showers and spacing out showers made it work. We were said to see the 2-person kayak had water in the air bladders when we arrived so we could not use it, but the floats and the dock were great.
Overall, a great stay. The view from the back porch/balcony is absolutely stunning. Our family enjoyed dinner outside watching the sunset. Also, the communication with the property manager was great, she was very responsive. However, the property could use some touch-up. Cleaning could be better, the basement (with 2 rooms and a large recreation room) smelled/felt damp, and parts of the property wasn't as clean as we hoped. Spider webs in corners of the house that can be easily removed during the cleaning process. Definitely recommend replacing the dishwasher, it was completely yellow inside, so we didn't use it.
But overall, good stay - again the view was awesome.
We had a very enjoyable weekend at Life is Good. The views are terrific. We loved the amenities especially the deck, paddle boards, kayak, fire put, arcade games and ping pong.
We were pleasantly surprised to see the kitchen has everything you need to cook and clean, the amenities are well maintained and they have thought of the little things a visitor might forget or need. Highly recommend.
